I would of say 35mil, but since its a handheld 50 is more reasonable. Also since PSP sold a little over 75mil people expect vita do the same (or close) but its a different market now. Ipods, etc change this IMO

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Over 50 millions it begins to be an acceptable number. We are talking of the successor of a ~80 millions sold console, under that number it can be considered a failure.
Wow, that's pretty harsh, both for the Vita and the Wii U.

Yea i know, You dont have to sell more than the previous console or handheld in order for it to be a success. If that was the case nintendo failed alot
NES>SNES>N64>GAMECUBE UNITS IN ORDER

You hit the nail on the head with the point about Japanese third-party support. In order for the system to be successful, it's home territory needs to show the love and be there with support. Iwata has done a fanTAStic job of getting all the big third-party players on board to sort of force 3DS into being a dominant machine in Japan. I don't necessarily agree that handhelds sell best in Japan. DS sold better in North America, but we're talking a population of 350 million + versus less than 120. Apples and oranges. |
Totally agree, its not an absoulte fact that handhelds sell better in Japan, I think it depends more on the system in question. Plus, the population is shriking in Japan as well lol.

I said 50 million then it will be a moderate success... I will buy one when the price drops. I can't see sitting around for 2 hours not doing anything waiting between classes... and fuck school work during that time.
The point in which they convince me to buy it. Only thing that matters to me...

If you cant get a vita now or waiting a couple months maybe a 3DS? They have kmart deal
A regular for 129.99 with SM3DL
or XL for 159.99 with MK7
There are good games like RE revelations and KIU, but hey if you want a Vita go ahead. Best deal is the bundled AC liberation! Thats a must have IMO

The bar for measuring success or failure cannot be really brought down to just a yes or no because there are areas where it succeeds and fails. It had a successful launch with a good line up of games, which is more than I can say for a lot of systems out there. It failed to attract a critical mass of 3rd party support than the PSP had and the 3DS has atm. If compare the sales of the Vita to date, its beat a lot of the lifetime sales other systems like the 3DO and CDI. Sony should included the ability to play PSP games that people owned already and also the ability to use 3rd party sd memory cards.
