Sony started the multimedia trend but they aren't forcing it to turn into a cable box. Microsoft hand is half way in Sonys PS2 marketshare. With American business attached to the industry get ready for more costly additions next gen and less and less games on Microsofts part as the years go by.

Everyone knows this. When Sony joined the gaming industry the expanded marketshare was primarily because of this. Microsoft is going to take it somewhere else though, mark my words.

N64, id say. Sonys offerings to the gaming industry was the multimedia experience. Didnt the GC have online for phantasy star?

Thats true, but Microsoft is dead set on taking it where it shouldnt be.

What's wrong with an all in one machine that's does everything that a PC does (and more if it has full cable/satellite functionality) but much more streamlined and easier to set up.

We still get great games like Halo, Forza, Fable, and many other unnanounced IPs that they are gearing up to make but we also get the added benefit of whatever else you want. 

I never got why people get so uppity about more options. You're not forced to do any of it. If you want just a game machine, then that's what it will be. If you want more you can have that too.

 

Optional extras are not bad. It's as simple as that.

I dont hate them, I just love this industry and hope they dont take things father than they've already gone.
