PS3 and 360 are so close that it doesn't matter who is second or third.  Statistically these two consoles are tied this generation.

I don't know how you can say long term support is a key to break a tie.  How are you going to measure long term support if the next gen xbox is fully backwards compatible and the PS4 isn't? or vice versa?  Wouldn't most potential owners buy the new console rather than the old console so they can play both sets of games?  It is highly likely that MS will have backwards compatibility because of their architecture.  Sony is shifting architectures drastically next gen which makes backwards compatibility less likely.

This is an victory for both Microsoft and Nintendo, because last gen, the PS2 was well over a 150,000,000 consoles.  This gen Sony will probably barely clear half of that.  Whereas Microsoft and Nintendo over doubled their sales.  The momentum is clearly not with Sony this generation.

What an excellent post.

Not really.

No it isn't, No company has any momentum, and if anyone did,it would be the ps3

People compare the PS3 to the PS2's sales, but what they are forgetting is one thing, the PS3 chased a 8m+ lead meaning it does infact have the momentum, and constantly outselling the 360 also helps my point.

Again, no it's not, and I'll tell everyone why.  Too many times I've read on these boards that people have tried to downplay the current success of the PS3 over its competition by comparing PS3 sales to PS2 sales.  How much the PS3 has currently sold has very little to do with what Sony started selling almost thirteen years ago.  Current sales are most important.  Never in the history of console gaming did the console with the most momentum being in first in worldwide sales (Wii) lost that momentum becoming last in current sales while the console that's third in worldwide sales became the best selling console (PS3) in current sales.  And current sales are what's most important since a company cannot rest its laurels on what they sold five years ago.  They have to rely on what they sell now.  Nintendo had to release a new console (WiiU) to help stay competitive with the Xbox 360 and PS3 since the Wii has failed to do so as of late.  With the PS3's strong software support, it continues to drive ahead of the competiton more and more for the past few years.  So the momentum is with the PS3, and it's quite surprising looking back at all the blunders the PS3 went through when first released.  In any other past gen, that third place console hardly ever stood a chance.  But with the PS3, it continues to contribute to the console market as if it were first worldwide.  The PS3 is currently outselling the competiton, and it's supplying consumers with a variety of great content.  If you have an issue with that and need to make excuses over it then you need to switch to another hobby.

You are the answer to every prayer I've offered.

You are a song, a dream, a whisper, and I don't know how I could have lived without you for as long as I have.
