Everyone knows "that boyfriend" who abuses, cheats, or is otherwise just mean to his girlfriend. And everyone hears him say "babe, I'm sorry for how I was; I promise I'll change. I love you."

Nintendo = that boyfriend (promising third party support)
Nintendo fans = the girlfriend

"Next time I'll get that third party support, baby. I promise. I want that third party support just as much as you. I'm sorry for all the times I let you down, I promise I'll do better from now on!"

Everyone tries to warn the girlfriend that her boyfriend is merely saying what he knows will appease her. Everyone tries to tell the girlfriend that her boyfriend won't change. But she keeps on believing in him and being let down time and time again.

But you are forgetting the boyfriends giant cock. Girlfriend always comes back for the cock.

Let's extend this analogy: the 'core' (haha) gamers are the chicks that the boyfriend won't give the time of day, so they're catty to the hotties that he does.

DS1 came out after WiiU was revealed last year, and I'm sure many of these games have started development after devs heard WiiU was in development.

I heard about the Wii U way back in mid 2010.   Doesn't mean I was able to put a game on it.

Granted, I'm not a developer...but my point is just because a 3rd party is aware of the system doesn't mean they can support it right away.

1. Does the developer have the allocated budget (internally or from a publisher) to add another console?

2. Does the developer ahve the manpower to allocate to another SKU?

3. Does the developer have enough development kits for simultaneous development?

4. Is the game engine already on the system or will that require another years worth of work?

5. Was the hardware finalized enough for us to put resoruces into it when we began development?

And many other questions go into the development process.  You can't just say because a dev heard about the console that it means they could develop their game for it they wanted to.  It's not that simple.

This.  Exactly.  The severe downturn in console sales and software has also had a detrimental impact. It's made it even more financially difficult to justify yet another SKU, especially for a console from a company that has a long-standing track record of selling first-party games that tend to overshadow third-pary games.  Many of the major publishers look at Wii U and can only think of the horror of third-party sales on N64, GameCube, and Wii.  Very few third-party games sold decent numbers on any of Nintendo's last three home consoles.

I have a question: does Turkish exist or is he an AI generated by running a dozen PS3s in parallel?

(This is a joke and the fact that I have to say this or I'll probably get modded/banned is a little disconcerting.)

I'd love to be powered by th3 C3ll, one of the most powerful CPUs of all time.

Turkish Wii U obssesion continues.  Turkish was all over this thread in GAF.  And the poll choices scream "agenda".

But it's too bad these games aren't coming to Wii U.  I think the industry has blacklisted Nintendo.  They don't want Nintendo to succeed some of them... this judging by their comments and releases (or lack thereof) on the Wii.

More reason for Nintendo 1st party to come with it.  They need to announce stuff soon.

Nintendo shouldn't fight to get multiplatforms, they should come naturally, and as of now, that doesn't happen.

I wouldn't quite jump to that conclusion just yet.  I think in Japan the situation will be much different.

That's true.  So, Nintendo should do partnerships like it's been doing.  At this point, I don't think many Western devs have any interest in the console.

It'll be hilarious if PS4 and Orbis are mega-powerful behemoths that cost a good deal of money and have trouble building an audience.  I wonder what these devs would do then; when only the most dedicated dudebros feel compelled to early adopt.

They can try to shut out Nintendo all they want, but the Wii U is guaranteed a good amount of support from Japan so long as sales stay healthy and Nintendo's diehard base will keep them afloat no matter what.  If you guys think times are tough for Wii U now... just wait until Sony and MS launch.

Turkish... I have a feeling these threads might come back to haunt you.

It didn't happen with microsoft either. Have people really forgotten how much microsoft were struggling prior to ps3's slow sales? Virtually everybody was behind ps3 and microsoft had to write a lot of cheques to get where they are. This is not exclusive to nintendo. Every company goes through this type of hurdle at a console launch. It is highly likely that developers will jump the gun on xbox (mistake I say) because sony systems have not been setting the world on fire the way they use to.

Over time more games will come naturally.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

I figured that Western third parties would need more convincing, but Japan is pretty much a no-brainer when it comes to support:  MH3's opening week sales SHOULD be encouraging to them.  Plus, Nintendo has better relations with those publishers anyway.
