what is an assault rifle?
|
I would explain, but it would be much easier if you just googled it. Basically automatic or burst capable rifles.
|
well i knew what you meant but people can never actually describe what it is. so i was wanting to know what you consider an "assualt rifle"
aslo: automatic and burst fire rifles were banned in may of 1986.
|
Yeah, they were banned from being made, but as long as it was made before the ban, you can legally own it. There are a lot of automatic and burst fire weapons out there, and people should not be allowed to own them.

actually no there arent a lot. and also you arent exactly correct, the had to be registered by that date to. many were not, and were deemed illegal.
the are so few because because the 1930's NFA law, required them to be registered, and pay a $200 tax stamp for (which was often more than the cost of the gun) this dramatically curbed the sales of the gun, as no one could afford the, the the the Gun Control act of 1968 ban the import of guns, irronically enough american gun manufacturers supported it, as they thought it would reduce competition. then 1986 banned them. and there were never a high demand for them in the first place. So now there is a set amount (or even decreasing as they break down) of automatic guns in the US (estimates i have seen range in the low hundred thousands). So these command an extremely high price. Usuallly $10k-$25k. then you have to pay the $200 tax stamp, register it in you name, pass extensive back round checks, have all you infromation on file, you finger prints sent im, then you need to get written permission the the cheif law enforment officer from where you life, and you are subject to random checks by BAFTE.
yeah so just about no one owns them, or can afford them. there have only been like 2 reported murders in the last 10 years by people who lawfully own automatic weapons. and one of the was a police officer.
