I've already called it some time ago and now I'm going to repeat it. Wii U will become a Gamecube 2. The casuals will pretty much ignore the console, since now it has a massive competition. 3rd parties will struggle as usual on a Nintendo console, we'll see if they leave it totally like the Wii, or if the sales will justify cheap downscaled ports. First party games will sell awesome, so Nintendo will be gaining money on the whole project.

Wii U = Gamecube 2

Its sales so far point to no, you are way off the mark.

Gamecube sold 400k in its european launch and wii did way less, you are correct.

I think I remember GC selling something like 600k in its NA launch. If that is correct, then you are once again absolutely correct. If someone knows a link with more accurate information, feel free to correct me.

Wii U is doing way worse than GC.

Why would I take anyone serious that only has European figures lol? The GC could have completely flopped in the States for all you know. You also lost credibility for confirming the GC had a better launch than Wii or did you mean WiiU?

Of course I meant Wii U, I am so sorry about that mistake.

I really don't care if you take me seriously or not, quick google did not give me the numbers so I am going with my memory.  Feel free to find the information and correct me if you feel that I am wrong. :)

People even comparing this to gamecube are way off the mark. The reason gamecube sold so low is because it was last. At worst this will do n64 numbers.

One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D

Wii left a sour taste in some of gamers mouths being used mainly for when you have your friends over, playing party games and casual games.

GameCube sold more than the Wii U did at launch.

GameCube actually had a very solid launch. The XBox had a *great* launch, considering it was a new system, but that was largely buoyed by having Halo.

The wheels on the GameCube fell off in 2002 though.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Wii U performed similarily to the GameCube in North America, where it sold OK, but Nintendo is stronger nowadays in Japan and especially Europe. Nintendo just basically conceeded Europe entirely during the N64/GCN days so they were really only selling in 2 markets ... well really 1 for GameCube because Japan never got into the GCN either after Smash Bros. Melee.

Do you have any figures? And you don't seriously believe any modern day console could seriously sell less than the GC? I don't even see the Vita doing that bad unless its discontinued.

But I think what we're seeing is all these ports have basically zero appeal to non-Nintendo fans. They're fun for hardcore Nintendo fans who haven't played them before to pick up, but the teenager who owns a PS3/360 and primarily plays games on that isn't going to be impressed by franchises that have been on PS3/360 for 6-7 years now finally showing up on the Wii brand.

lol. Next you'll be telling me that xbox has zero appeal to people who don't like microsoft's games or playstation has zero appeal to non-playstation fans. These are for people who want to play the games on nintendo. They aren't aimed at ps3 and 360 owners.

I stick by my statements. Nintendo has stated and implied several times that they are trying to get a more core audience on the Wii U and having games like CoD and AC3 are "checking that box".

The problem with this philosophy (sorry Reggie) is that no one cares that the Wii U finally got franchises that everyone has been playing on other platforms for like several years already.

In effect having ports of these games are nice, but they're about as effective as a knife in a gun fight. Would I rather have a knife than nothing at all? Sure? But I'd rather have a gun too, lol.

That's Nintendo's problem is they have no gun in this fight.

If they strategy is to appeal to only Nintendo fans ... great. We've seen how that story goes with the GameCube.

Dude re-read what I said, lol. I never said what you implied, in fact I said the opposite.

Also the Gamecube sold 660k its first month in North America. Which is more than Wii or Wii U, though the Wii was extremely supply constrained, probably could've sold 2-3x more.

The major hole you don't account for is that you can make the same argument against the others. All they will have on launch is late ports of multiplatform games. So why is it any different with them? What exactly is the incentive for picking up the games on other consoles?
