This doesn't make any sense after they just said they plan to be profitable by fiscal 09.

Some folks in here have high apple pie in the sky hopes. Prepare for a letdown.

 I read about this on slick deals. this was a weekend Manager's special only in a few Best Buys in the east coast.  It was 2 weeks ago.

i think you would have fun with a lot of the games, especially new ones coming out in 08. 

If Sony drops the price, everyone (consumers and game developers) wins.  The only negative would probably be Sony's short term bottom line.

I hope it's true.  No reason for anyone to hope otherwise except maybe a short-sighted investor.

On the playstation forums, they are saying that Sony are dropping the price to 299$ because Warner want them to.

If they did do this, there is nothing Ninty and M$ could do to offset this. Nintendo has supply issues, so lowering the price makes no sense. M$ already has a console at this price point so it wouldnt help them either. The PS3 however would skyrocket in sales. They may not be making money on the PS3 yet, but they do make money on every stand alone player they sell as well as profit from the PS2 and PSP. With production costs dropping the way they have, It isnt that out of the question for them to do this. It would help boost US sales for sure.

Another drop price so soon would knock down Sony's profits as a whole.
