All that really does is prove both titles were bundled (Uncharted 3 a bit moreso). The fact that a franchise that started no where near Gears of War numbers to land where it is today is really saying a lot.

Well a limited edition bundle available for 2 months versus a wide range of different bundles available all over the world for the past 13 months and the forseeable future is more than "a bit" IMO.

And where exactly did Uncharted come from and where Gears did not come from? Both are new IPs this gen. One released in 2006 on a console that launched in 2005 and the other one in 2007 on a console that launched in 2006. Uncharted did not have a disadvantage or something like that.

Actually, Uncharted did have a disadvantage.  It started on a console whose entry price was $500, while Gears started on a console whose entry price was $300.  That's quite the disadvantage.

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

Only through heavy bundling.

Every company need its system sellers. So sony is doing right about bundling Uncharted 3 like hell and so did Microsoft with bundling Forza 3 like hell. Both are great games that deserve great sales. I see nothing wrong with bundling a game to expand its audience and make sure that many will buy a ps4 just for uncharted 4.

Uncharted 3 is a big success and sony make a lot right with this game.
Good marketing, great revies, bundling and some great preorder deals made this game a whole success.

I'd just like to point out that, if Uncharted 3 reaches 6 million copies sold and Gears 3 reaches 6 million sold, we'll look at it as a tie or even a victory for Uncharted 3. On the other hand, Gears will have made MILLIONS more dollars because more people paid for Gears while Uncharted was, in more cases, a nice little bonus that came with the PS3 they bought.

According to that logic, every game on PS3 has a disadvantage and every game on the Wii has an advantage over the competition. And the entry price of the PS3 was already cut by 100 USD to $399 when the first Uncharted launched.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Both titles released this generation and had to build their fanbase.  What Uncharted did isn't particularly any different or special compared to Gears.  Uncharted DF sold less because it wasn't as good and it sold to a smaller fanbase.  Uncharted 2 rated better and was hyped to the hilt hence the better sales.  Uncharted 3 was good and has been heavily bundled, it says more about how important the franchise has been to Sony imo.

As I was relating to Dirty, some said Uncharted would never pass Gears (I even remember Uncharted: Drake's Fortune being touted by some as a "Gears clone"). All I'm saying is, considering that, Uncharted has come  along way, bundling or not. But it's a strong seller on its own that will now have a boost in sales. Has happened to some of this gen's notable titles; from Halo, to Forza, to Gran Turismo, inFAMOUS, and the list can go on and on.

I'm not in disagreement, I just wanted to make it clear Uncharted started from the same point as Gears, they've just taken different routes to their success.  To me its pretty clear Sony needed Uncharted to succeed so it has been pushed massively hence the success.  Microsoft have used Forza and Halo as system sellers by heavily bundling this gen too, to a lesser extent they did have a Gears 1 + 2 bundle in 2009 I think?  Wish they had bundled Halo Wars, that deserved more people to play it.

I don't think you're understanding me. Uncharted didn't start with a 900K week 1 (MUCH, much lower, in fact). To see where it's come from such a timid opening is why some are praising its current status

That's because it came out when the PS3 had a smaller userbase and it reviewed worse.  Its not special, its what happens when you throw marketing and bundling at a IP.  The next two reviewed better too.  With hindsight I completely disagree if you say it is in someway more impressive than the sales Gears got.

Unlike Gears bundle, Uncharted 3 bundle actually cost more. And there are many more options to chose from. Its not like BF bundle.

You ignore the fact that UC3 was selling more than GOW3 even without bundles.  Both are great games, but UC3 definitely has better legs.

How exactly do bundled games work financially? Do Naughty Dog get anything?
