Both titles released this generation and had to build their fanbase.  What Uncharted did isn't particularly any different or special compared to Gears.  Uncharted DF sold less because it wasn't as good and it sold to a smaller fanbase.  Uncharted 2 rated better and was hyped to the hilt hence the better sales.  Uncharted 3 was good and has been heavily bundled, it says more about how important the franchise has been to Sony imo.

As I was relating to Dirty, some said Uncharted would never pass Gears (I even remember Uncharted: Drake's Fortune being touted by some as a "Gears clone"). All I'm saying is, considering that, Uncharted has come  along way, bundling or not. But it's a strong seller on its own that will now have a boost in sales. Has happened to some of this gen's notable titles; from Halo, to Forza, to Gran Turismo, inFAMOUS, and the list can go on and on.

I'm not in disagreement, I just wanted to make it clear Uncharted started from the same point as Gears, they've just taken different routes to their success.  To me its pretty clear Sony needed Uncharted to succeed so it has been pushed massively hence the success.  Microsoft have used Forza and Halo as system sellers by heavily bundling this gen too, to a lesser extent they did have a Gears 1 + 2 bundle in 2009 I think?  Wish they had bundled Halo Wars, that deserved more people to play it.

I don't think you're understanding me. Uncharted didn't start with a 900K week 1 (MUCH, much lower, in fact). To see where it's come from such a timid opening is why some are praising its current status

That's because it came out when the PS3 had a smaller userbase and it reviewed worse.  Its not special, its what happens when you throw marketing and bundling at a IP.  The next two reviewed better too.  With hindsight I completely disagree if you say it is in someway more impressive than the sales Gears got.
