Wow the damage control in this thread is absolutely marvelous, if we had half this effort put into National Disasters recovery would be almost instantaneous. It just amazes me how this went from a "5 million seller" to it will have legs. When was this suppose to dethrone SSB again? lol

Please list two people that said this game would be a "5 million seller." I'll give you one: Gilgamesh. Now, please give me just one more person who said this would be a "5 million seller.

Thanks    XD

Holy crap! Those predictions!

Still though, that was back in September when it was really just a guessing game. As people recieved more pre-order data, many people lowered their predictions considerably. There hasnt been much of a change between now and 2-3 weeks ago. With recent pre-order data, most people lowered their predictions to 1-2m, which I assume they still hold today. It hasnt been some instantaneous transition from "5 million seller" to "1m seller" as your original post implied. Expectations have been gradually decreasing for the past several weeks as we've recieved more data.

How can you call a game a flop if it hasn't even been out for more then two weeks?

Very easily?

Long legs are an exception, not a rule. That's especially true if the game is not given away as part of a console bundle.

Back at E3 everyone was saying the PS3 would eat the other consoles alive for the holidays because of the great exclusive content...

PS All Stars, LBP Karting, and Last of Us... Plus Wonder Books for the casuals...

Last of Us ended up being a title for next year, LBP Karting, PS All Stars are both flops... Wonder Books is non-existent.

I think PS All Stars and LBP Karting are good games. But, I can't help but think that PSN Plus people are sitting there thinking... "Why buy it when it will show up free in a few months?". As much as PSN Plus has helped Sony fund their network services, I also think the free games part has to be affecting sales of key games like these. I have pretty much stopped buying PS3 games... I just wait for the monthly list and accept the freebies as my PS3 collection now.

How can you call a game a flop if it hasn't even been out for more then two weeks?

Yeah, that's a flop.

@NeoRatt: Thats a good point, haven't thought about it from this angle. Some PS+ people might hold of on buying new games entirely since they are digging through their new free PS+ backlog.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

same could be said in the reverse. For successful new IPs, large openings are the exception, not the rule. It's more times than not a low opening (100-200k). One week of sales is really a poor indicator of long term sales for new IPs. (Speaking on PABR here. Lbpk is most likely a flop).

NeoRatt : I hope for you don't expect to have for free exclusives like The Last Of Us, Beyond Two Souls, Sly 4, God Of War Ascension and Yakuza 5

As for this game, I expect to be a million seller one day. But the thing is that we will never have the true numbers... Vgchartz are wrong and almost nobody give numbers or digital sales.

vgc is inaccurate when it comes to tracking PS3 games.

COD games are undertracked
GOW 3 is undertracked
Uncharted 3 is undertracked
Gran Turismo 5 is undertracked

And there are many more...but still All stars is probably a flop but I did expect it to be one...what would be surprising is if Last of Us is a flop...GOW can't be a flop...no matter how hard SM tries to make it a flop

Hope springs eternal, I suppose. I'll close this discussion by pointing out that 1) you're constructing a narrative out of a falsity, and more importantly 2) the vast majority of new IPs have low openings...and poor lifetime sales.

Time it was posted is irrelevant, it answers your question and debunks your assertion that no one other than Gilgamesh said it would sell 5 million. You can spin it as much as you want but it doesn't change the facts. Jay your better than this just admit you were wrong and move on.

Sony should have waited until the ps4 launched to bring out this title. It would have been a great launch title...oh well...

New IP...

...That old chestnut.

We know.

The point is ALL THINGS CONSIDERED...

It's a flop, so far. Of course it might have legs but I doubt it, it's not exactly long legs type material in either genre, quality or desirability to joe public.
