Forums - Sales Discussion - PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a MAJOR flop - we need to talk about it

He is throwing around insults because fans hype games.

Nintendo fans hype games. Microsoft fans hype games. Do they get insulted in the same manner, let alone get lumped together as if all of them do these same things? Why does it make them desperate, foolish and unable to comprehend?

Take a step back and realize it isn't that big a deal.

Everyone hypes games, yes.  But hyping a game and making insane predictions is something else.  And not expecting people to serve crow when said insane prediction fails shouldn't be that surprising.

Yeah but come on.

You don't drag such an incredible roster, the PS3's poster boys and girls, through the mud that is this game to get just some profit.

It looks like a great card terribly wasted.

@ Jaywood

The game should have no problem making a profit. It looks like an extremely low budget PSN game. Probably didn't use many resources and could make profit with 500k, if not less.

I disagree, the game looks generic, unoriginal, uninteresting, lacks FF characters and Dante, a waste of one's online time compared to the alternatives, promises no story, looks terribly repetitive, horrible graphics considering the full price...

This game is the embodiment of Sony's arrogance.

all that may be true (I don't know), but what exactly are you disagreeing with?

I am disagreeing with the part where the game "should have no problem making a profit".

It looks like a suicide attempt from the trailers and gameplay videos alone.

I mean this is not another game, this has the Sony brand in the title.

A small profit should not be acceptable from a game exploiting like this some of the biggest names of the PS3.

Again, what are you disagreeing with? I never said the profits would be acceptable.

maybe Sony should make it as PlayStation-All-Stars-Battle-Shooters and might sell much more...?? xD

Yeah exclusive fighers only work on Nintendo..

Like Tekken, right?

Where is Tekken exclusive?

Tekken Advance (GBA)

Tekken 3D (3DS)

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=Tekken+3D

------------

Tekken Dark Resurrection (PSP)

http://www.vgchartz.com/gamedb/?name=Tekken%3A+Dark&publisher=&platform=&genre=&minSales=0&results=200

Also.. Tekken is hardly exclusive..  They games may be exclusive in name only.  They reuse the same characters and materials from other tekken games. Nintendo needs completely unique exclusives a tekken on Nintendo usually feels like a lazy port.

And there is an equal amount that started low (some even higher than PSALBR) and couldn't make to a million.

Starhawk, Twisted Metal, SOCOM 4, Haze, White Knight Chronicles, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, MLB The Show to name a few.

Considering the gen (for Sony) is almost over at this point I think that sales under 1m is certainly possible. Obviously it will be clearer after Christmas.

I'll be honest, I've never heard of Starhawk until I came to these forums around this time last year.

Twisted Metal was expected to fail because of the mistakes in development or so I hear.

SOCOM4 was never really a huge franchise, overshadowed by other better games.

Haze , I've never heard of this title either until I came to these forums LOL

White Knight Chronicles was never hyped up and I have yet to know anyone who has the game, I am planning to get the 2nd game since it has the first game in it.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 was made by Tecmo I thought o.O?

MLB...people still play those...?

^ That is probably why they never sold...

You missed a lot then. WKC was hyped as the JRPG saviour on PS3 back in the days where 360 was rocking that genre.
The first SOCOM sold 3.65m according to our numbers. How's that not a big franchise ? Obviously not as big as GT but still very popular.
Haze was a self proclaimed Halo killer, though the not die hard fanboys knew that it wouldn't be as good. Would have sold more if they didn't release a demo a week or two before launch (I remember the shitstorm on the Gametrailers forum)

Also there are other games that barely crossed the million mark, though these had more time to sell their amounts unlike PSASBR.

Either way I'm not sure if you completely disagree with me or if you're neutral about this topic, if PSASBR does under 1m you would post a similar reason as to why it didn't sell as much.
But even if it breaks the mark. We made prediction threads and I think most people (including myself) were expecting 2.5m-3m on average. Very doubtful if it does even half the amount.

everybody i know that was a Socom fan said that Socom 4 was garbage

I also thought that WKC was going to revive the PS3 RPG library until i saw the actual gameplay

and yea people did claim that Haze would be a Halo killer but you have to admit that the Haze trailer actually did look DAMN good before the game actually came out though

How long did you play the game before calling it shit?

It's a low budget game, it doesn't need to sell millions to be profitable.
Besides this game will have legs, like all PS3 exclusives.

I'm pretty sure this game got overlooked by all the great deals on some other games, Black Friday is not a great time to launch a new IP if you ask me.

Why are you comparing Black Ops 2 to this game anyway? lmfao

No. Just no

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Yes, but it can be done without calling being "foolish", "desperate" and "unable to comprehend".

You also seem to have not read the thread Rol linked to, because if you did you would see that the only insane prediction was Gilgamesh'.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Ah crap. I wonder why. The game is great, it's not without flaws but it does so many things right. I figured the announced free DLC would help out a bit but I guess not. I will still hold up for a sequel in later years.

Another good game snuffed from glory. I'm a sucker for flops I suppose.

EDIT: that BO2 comparison is a load of bull. While most alot of PS3 players are playing the game (at least 10+ people are everyday in my friendlist at once) you can't fairly compare the two. Compare it to the original smash bros or brawl, or TTT2, or any revelant fighting/multiplayer.

A comparison to Brawl wouldn't be too flattering either, Brawl sold 1.35m first week in NA, 0.24m in Europe and 0.84m in Japan.

I do agree the game's great though!

how much did the 1st Smash sell its 1st week?

lets hope that "SONY'S BATTLE ROYALE" on PS4 can lift the franchise like the beast known as Melee did for Smash Bros

The data isn't available, it stands at 5.5m lifetime though, I think we can all agree PSASBR won't get there.
