Forums - PC - EA to release free ad-supported Battlefield game

I read about this earlier. Pretty good idea if EA knows how to pull it off I might actually end up trying this game out because it looks pretty interesting.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

I doubt it'll be any good.

Yeah it's free, so what. Too many people are going to tell me I can't complain because it's free, well too bad...if it sucks, it sucks, and I'll make sure to criticize it.  I have a feeling it won't run well, the graphics won't be great, the game will be oversimplified, etc.

Also, free games attract a LOT more of the annoying little kid demographic, and that is a bad consequence.

I'd like for EA to prove me wrong, but EA has not been the company to prove me wrong in the past.  It'll likely look and play like it should be free, no more.

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

Hmm, this could turn out to either be a really big hit or a terrible failure. Other free online FPS games like America's Army and Wolfenstein: ET have done really well.

even Valve has ad-supoported games now. It cant be helped. game development is at the point where advertising is needed to gain funds. Even HOME will be supported by sponsers.

OMG all those companies that EA has acquired are finally starting to get to EA. Hopefully this wont be the last smart/good move by EA.

It may or may not be good.  I enjoyed 1942, but not BF2.  Besides, Valve has shown gamers how to do class-based team combat games.  As I told Gabe Newell and Robin Walker, TF2 is the real thing.
