Forums - Nintendo - WiiU owners please tell me.....

@Cityofnoobs Yes headphones with mics work. I do it all the time its so lovely. No need to purchase a WiiU headset at all. I've tried it with my Samsung headphones and my sisters Apple headphones. They work fine. Do the other consoles do this?

I only have NSMB U, Cod Black Ops 2, and Nintendo Land (I typed Zombie Land by accident! LOL!) and none of those games have any issues. I'm actually surprised how awesome Nintendo Land looks and plays. Online is awesome, too.

The only thing that throws my enjoyment off: Call of Duty BO1 has a 3D mode on the Xbox 360, at least. I haven't found that option for COD BO2 on the Wii U. If the other versions have it and the Wii U doens't, it's going to nag me forever!

"Online is awesome, too"  -what is awesome about the online? how is multiplayer blops2 online ?

Call of Duty sets the standard for quick online matchmaking without hiccups, from my experience.  The Wii U version keeps up with the 360 quite nicely.  No lag, no hiccups, or anything.  I was worried how Nintendo's online would hold up after some piss poor experiences on the Wii.  The Wii U is up to task.......except that nobody--not one single person I've played with--has said a single word.  No headsets, I guess.

You know, the funny thing is all you have to do is plug in a random set of head phones or ear buds into the plug and the mic would just work automatically, I'm surprised a lot of people don't know this lol.

Have you tried this? or do you know that it works for sure? I ask because my Wii U will be getting here Monday and I would like to not purcahse a headset if I dont need to.

youtube it if you want to be sure

ps: it only works that way with BLOPS2 though, they really threw in a lot of features for the Game Pad with this game, I'm pretty impressed actually

ps2: works with Ninja Gaiden 3 as well apparently, I'm surprised they don't tell people these things lol

Of the 14 Wii U launch titles I have played the following are the graphics show cases in order

Assassin's Creed 3 - This is Uncharted 3 level graphics, animation, and much broader scale. Amazing stuff. Nothing else on Wii U matches this.

Black Ops 2 - Best in class for shooters with solid visuals at solid 60 fps. Also supports split screen co-op with two players from same machine getting individual screens both running solid. So one player would be on HDTV, second on Gamepad and both could play together online or against bots and even System Link if you happen to have multiple Wii U's on your network.

New Super Mario Bros U - It's cutesy Mario art style, but it looks crisp and gorgeous... Mario in HD is awesome

Nintendo Land - Amazingly good looking primarily due to art style. I love how good the Mii's look and especially how well they adorn the various Nintendo themed costumes as they participate in Zelda, Mario, Pikmin, etc themed mini-game collections.

Ninja Gaiden 3 - Razor's Edge - Very viseral and stylized violence... very fast action. Bloody mess and highly entertaining and engaging gameplay.

Darksiders 2 - Identical to PS3 version (meaning great art style, solid framerate, epic scale, etc). Gamepad makes this the best version of game.

Sonic and All-Stars Racing Transformed - Looks and runs great even supporting 4-player split-screen racing. Amazing variety of Sega IP themed cources, awesome Sega IP characters with unique transforming vehicles. Really stand out water physics for water portion of courses reminding me of Wave Race.

ZombiU - Very depressing looking artistic direction, but it is high quality. Extremely hardcore game. If you don't play it smart, you get punished.

Batman Arkham City - I felt the PS3 version looked better. Still a great game and some nifty Gamepad implementation in place

I don't think I need to go on

Does it have muddy graphics or jaggies. Im not a graphics whore, but im getting irritated by articles and forums dissing WiiU and its graphical performances. Since im from England i wont be sampling WiiU delights until at least next week or beyond. So i want to hear it from the good people here on VG chartz who own WiiU, does it stand up graphically and are the reports just fanboys stirring up a bit of trouble.

The only reason you would get muddy graphics is if you are using an HDMI cable with an HDtv that doesn't support Limited RGB. In that case just switch to composite, it is an oversite on Nintendos part but hopefully one that will be rectified soon. And I've really seen no issue with jaggies, they are present but nothing I've played even warrents a comment, and the downscaling to the tablet looks good. I bought the Wii U because I could, I didn't pre-order, I'm not a fanboy of anything, I was at Target and it was in stock and that was an opportunity the gamer in me could not pass up. After spending some time with the console, I absolutley love it (and I really don't have any notable feelings about my PS3 or 360, maybe occasional annoyance). I highly recommend the Wii U to all, it's new, it's fresh, and it provides a fun and unique social environment.

How do you find out if your TV supports Limited RGB because I goggled my TV specs and can't find a clear answer. Its a Samsung le32r73bd.

Not sure, I'm using a 3-4 year old, 46" Samsung plasma, 1080p, and my picture is nice and clean. I really wish I knew more about Limited and Expanded RGB and which HDtvs may specifically support either, but I don't and I don't know where to look for that info.

Can I just play Blops2 off of the gamepad, it seems less pretentious that way for some reason, and something i might want to play?

I have AC3 on PS3 already, but I have yet to find a good AC3 comparison between the 3 consoles, and I would be totally willing to buy it for Wii U if it provided a somewhat more stable and consistent experience.

Every tv supports limited RGB range, it's the standard for tv broadcasts and movies.
Full RGB is for pc monitors and only a few tvs support full RGB range.

Full RGB range uses values of 0 to 255 (1 byte) for red, green and blue. TV broadcasts and movies limit this to 16-235, hence Limited RGB. Imtermediate and Expanded RGB are confusing terms introduced by xbox 360 and some tvs, there is no such thing, tv's work with limited range out of the box, monitors with the full range. Some tvs let you switch to full range or incorrectly named expanded range.

What it all means is, if you connect the wiiU to a pc monitor black will look like grey since black on the WiiU is RGB value 16,16,16 instead of 0,0,0. Simply increase the contrast and adjust the brightness a bit to fix the image.

However the same can happen with some modern tvs. The tv might switch to full rgb range processing when it receives an RGB signal. (Normal tv and blu-ray/dvd signals are in YCrCb color format) Simply increase contrast and adjust brightness to fix the washed out picture.

You might need to do that too if you have previously calibrated it for an xbox 360. The x360 has a gamma adjustment in the video output to make the picture a bit darker. Looks better in stores that have tvs set to high brightness and contrast to grab attention. So if the 360 looks great and you plug in the wiiU afterwards in the same input it might look a bit washed out.

Digital Foundry made it seem like a thing to be weary of, Thank You!
