It just really makes you wonder how the 5 GB figure was first calculated and why it was taken as gospel by ever single media outlet (well, one of them didn't...*wink*)?

Only 1 GB, that's not that bad. So the reason why it took so long was because of saturated servers and not the size, good to know.

Correct.  Server throttling.  Massive volume compared to capacity.

Consider that other people later in the day said it was only taking 10-20 minutes to download.  That means it had to be smaller than 5 GB (because that would exceed their downlaod speed) and the server throttling was fixed.

Have to say that that alleged 5GB seemed a bit extreme.
I doubt all of Windows 7 updates combined add up to that... maybe it does but you get my point.

After all it's only a console.
