Something about a new console that peripherals and handhelds can't thrill.

I know, it's such a great feeling. I was over the moon when I bought my PS3. I usually don't enjoy things as much when I've paid and arm and a leg for it, but that £320 I saved up was worth it. I might not have had a HDTV, but the graphics still blew me away. I had a pretty similar feeling when I first bought my TVs too, from 15 inch SD, to 19 inch HD and then 32 inch HD.

I'll probably have a similar feeling when I buy a Playstation Vita, although it won't be like when I buy a new home console. It doesn't feel as fresh after playing one and hearing everything about it on the internet.

Ahh, yes, I still remember the day I got my 3DS XL. Such fond memories.

@OP, I'm sure the Wii U is going to be awesome but I'm getting older, gens are lasting longer, and to be honest, I kinda planned to quit gaming at the end of last gen. Nothing lasts forever.

i actually really considered buying a WiiU, it just didnt interest me much maybe in the future, im always open to buying any console execpt for MS consoles as they charge for live. but yes consoles are different, maybe because the graphics and gameplay on new handhelds are still inferior to the consoles we own. 

I'm not planning to get a Wii U (at least not yet, who knows), but I agree it is an awesome feeling.

I've been following some launch articles about Wii U, I love those. Seeing people in line to get the console, unboxing videos, sales numbers, that stuff. I love console launches.

Last console I bought was a PS Vita in July 2012. Good times, opening the box, being a noob at using the console features... :)

The last console I had reserved was the 3DS, but this is the first time that I'm actually going to a midnight console launch. It's going to be sweet.

Most of my consoles that I bought were reserved but I did not go the launch. Except for my wii which turned out be bad since FYE had no idea when they were going to have wii's in stock so my preorder was useless.
