Forums - Sony Discussion - Unconfirmed: Square Enix Holding Special Conference Early Next Year, New Final Fantasy Versus XIII Details Expected

Se held out for another megaton.
Versus on wiiu!
Because multilat made so much sense!

I'm not holding my breath.

Versus was supposed to be THE premiere game to showcase ALL of the PS3's capabilities. Of course, this game was announced to be in planning stages and development back in 2006. Only one trailer and a handful of quotes since then.

Perhaps if Square Enix pulled their heads out, stopped denigrating the series with a bunch of "Lightning" sequels (I couldn't even finish XIII, was by far one of my least favorite in the series), and started working on supposed blockbusters such as Versus, then they would have confidence from the fans again. As of now, SE is a big joke, and I won't buy another one of their games until either Versus XIII is out, or we see something other than this overused and abused Lightning Saga.

I will be extremely disappointed if this ends up going multiplat (this game in particular). I would also like to hear something on a Kingdom Hearts 3 for PS3. It only makes sense...

Square Enix could have really shook the gaming community (for it's standards on this console generation) if it had released Versus XIII and Kingdom Hearts 3 by now. And they lost their chance with FF XIV. I'm sure it will be better, but, I've waited too long. Had they released it on time, I could have been playing it this whole time. Now, my schedule doesn't fit any time for an MMO.

Edit: I'd like to add that the main reason I bought a PS3 was for Versus XIII. That's how promising this game was supposed to be from it's first "announcement."

I work at an FYE, and while majority of the store may very well be DVD, it is only because many of what is available on that format is not yet on BluRay. First question usually is "Is this available on BluRay?", its still doing the slow shift, just as VHS did to DVD. Do you think all those BluRay players where purchased for their DVD funtionality? I think not.

I'd point out that Blu-ray is behind DVD in the "Top 200" tracking polls... and by quite a bit... and that should be more favorable to Blu-ray then not.

Worth noting Blu-ray players are

A) Just about the only thing you can buy now a days.

B) Upscale DVDs.

Blu-ray's unprecedented stagnancy generally goes untalked about here only because this is a videogame website.

All other "conquering formats" have long past left their predecessor at this point.   Blu-ray... hasn't even gotten halfway yet.

I mean, a Videogame charts esque pie charts might explain this best.

That's around where Blu-ray has stayed FOREVER.   22-29% of the market on any given week.

According to Wikipedia the sales of BluRay are right on track, and seem to be moving at slower pace than DVD's take over only becuase of the recession. Sales on movies and the like are down overall. HD TVs are being adopted more and more, but BluRay is dependant on that market as well. The bigger the blockbuster the better the BluRay sales it seems, as stuff like the Dark Knight, Star Wars, LotR skyrocket the sales faster than other formats.

Adoption rate will pick up as we stabalize the economy, sales reports show it has only been going up.

Using Wikipedia as a source isn't really the best idea.

Honestly I care enough to reply but we waited long enough to the point we're reaching DNF level of waiting and unless we see a trailer with an actual release date ( like month day and year posted), we shouldnt get too excited.

I can see Lightning Returns coming out before this at this point....which is sad.

At this point I'm hoping it's a PS4 title.

Wooo! Hold on, child. Don't go that fast. First things first.

Is this game planned to be in development in the near* future?

*Near = next two or three decades.

Why do people keep saying that ?

FF IX and FF XII were released at the very end of their respective gens. Do your homework fellas.
