Forums - General - Toughest NES Games Worth Playing (except one)

Ninja Gaiden

You ever wonder why the current remakes of Ninja Gaiden are so dam hard? Well, that is because the original was even tougher. Remember those dam birds that would always get you when you tried to jump! Ninja Gaiden on the NES was one beast of a game and one of toughest games ever released, but is also my favorite game of all time.

The Adventures of Bayou Billy

Back in the day when the beatem-up was king, The Adventures of Bayou Billy sought to kick your teeth in and leave you bloody and bleeding in a Louisiana swamp. This game was just totally awesome and mixed in beatem-up, driving and even light gun/zapper levels into one tough game. The Adventures of Bayou Billy is a true NES classic that will kick your face in, but is worth playing.

The Gaurdian Legend

They don’t make them like this anymore. Like The Adventures of Bayou Billy, The Guardian Legend was a game that mixed different gameplay elements into one kick-ass blend of gaming goodness. The Guardian Legend was one part RPG and one part shootem-up, but all parts a brutal game to beat.

Blaster Master

This game was deceptively and ridiculously hard. I mean all you had to do was save your pet dog Fred that fell into a hole in the ground. I can’t say much about this game because I didn’t make it too far in the adventure – poor Fred. L

Mike Tyson’s Punch Out

This game is a true classic and is really not that hard until you get to the final 3 fighters, Mr. Sandman, Super Macho Man and of Mr Dream aka Mike Tyson.  I personally never beat Mike Tyson on my own but I seen it done, and it is no easy task. Easily an all time top 5 NES game, but one that will knock you out repeatedly.

Section Z

I never beat this game, but if you beat this game without using a code or guide, you’re a dam lier. That’s all I have to say about Section Z.

So that's my list of the NES' toughest but best games. Did you beat any of these games? Do you think any game is missing from this list? Did you beat Section Z - if you did you're lieing!

Those damn eagles in Ninja Gaiden...NES was just constant punishment.

The first Ninja Turtles game was a pain; Top Gun, too. Plus Castlevania and Mega Man.

Never beat TMNT 1, but found Ninja Gaiden and Punch Out!! doable.

Little Nemo: The Dream Master is a great game but very tough.

Snake Rattle and Roll was also hella fun (for the first few stages), but was never able to beat it without cheats.

Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back, great games but tough as hell too.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Section Z was hard as hell!! It was a pain in the ass just to get through a couple of lvls.

Yeah, the first Turtles game was tough, and I never finished it simply because I couldn't figure out how to extend that dam rope - remember that? I didn't play too much of Top Gun. Castlevania was really hard, I didn't finish that either. And yeah Mega Man was hard but beatable.

Out of your list I only played Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back, the latter of which was really cool considering all the Force powers you could use. Plus I remember that when you dies but didn't continue, Yoda would say "And that is why you Fail!" lol.  I beat both, which were good games and really tough.

Never had an NES but I did have Ninja Gaiden on the gameboy and I wonder why as a kid I tried to beat it even though I was taking a beating :/

Anyways how dose it compare to the NES games on difficulty.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

ahha yes NInja Gaiden. I completed it two-three myself many years ago. The news ones i don't mind, hwoever I am not a fan of the camera angles.

MIke Tyson I only beat him once with KO and once with a umpires decision. This is a game if you blink you go down haha.

Section Z was so rediculous it should not be called a game.
