I don't know. I used to be in favor of it but recently it came out a handful of evidence pointing out to the long-term damage of cannabis in the brain and concerning its effects on not yet fully-grown people.

Namely how cannabis, from almost every drug, is the one with the most chemical compounds ready to react with the brain displacing a whole class of neurotransmitters. How a marijuana smoker inhales 4 times more nicotine than a tobacco smoker. How it's dependence rate among teenagers reach 15%, same as cocaine, and how it lowers IQ up to 8 points due to long-term use.

Of course it remains to be seen if prohibiting and repressing is the way to go instead of rehabilitating and educating. I'd guess not.

Anyways it's sort of a taboo to be against marijuana nowadays so nevermind me... but I'm sure politicians would love the possibility of a huge part of the electorate having lower IQs and whatnot.

Which is why it's best to legalize it and restrict it to younger people (minors). Only adults can use it since by the time your an adult, your body is already fully devloped. But that might be a subject of debate when it comes to adults as young as 21. Plus I heard a number of times about that questionable argument about cannabis having more cancerous tar than tobacco. If that were true cancers should've shown up by now after 30-40+ years.

Things will improve with these new bills. Hopefully cannabis use among  minors and the transition to harder drugs will drop significantly in these two states.

Well tar is one thing and nicotine is other... it's about an alcaloid with strong addictive power (although you literally die if you come in contact with pure nicotine) instead of the lookalike of a crude oil product. It's mostly due to the lack of a filter though.

The thing I fear is, the same way teenagers still manage to get drunk here and there they could start getting marijuana with the same ease and with it falling for it's addictive potential. I could be wrong though, I don't know. Perhaps young people in these two states are smarter than I'm giving them credit.

Marijuana is less lethal to your health than cigarettes and alcohol, so I always thought it was stupid to make it ilegal.

This. It should just be regulated like alcohol, setting a max level in the blood for people driving vehicles or performing dangerous jobs and tasks at work and forbidding it to minors. Something about tar should be done too, recommending people to use filters or assuming it in different ways from smoking it.

Grats to the marijuana movement. I might have to look into moving to Colorado or Washington.

marijuana should be legalised full stop! anyone who wants to smoke it, should be able to do so regardless of where they are on earth.

A lot of monies is lost to big corps if this is legalized. First in line is big pharmacies, closely followed by organized gangs.

that's exactly why i want marijuana legalized.  i'm not too keen on smoking it myself (anymore) but i am keen on defunding the gangs that are currently profiting on it.   tax it, get real job creation that can be regulated (and removes the gun violence around current distribution), defund the black market/terrorist orginizations that are profiting from current sales, be able to remove some of the resources dedicated to the war on drugs.

i dunno, i'm no economist but from my perspective there are a lot of up sides to legalizing marijuana and it is really not that hard of a drug.  i didn't think getting high was much different from getting drunk really.

Make all drugs legal and watch the Mexican cartels not know what the fuck to do.

Well, he may still be correct:

We shall see.

On the main subject - how exciting.  Ideally the federal government will step aside and respect the will of the people.  But who am I kidding?  Looking forward to this showdown.  Will democracy actually be respected by those who claim to defend it?
