Forums - Microsoft - Worth buying a second hand 360 for lost odyssey?

Tagged games:

A console is never worth it just for one game. That said, there are plenty of games worth it on the 360 to get.

Also, as with buying any second-hand console, I would make sure there's some kind of warranty on that 360 and make sure it can actually connect to Live. For all you know the previous owner could have either been banned and got his console banned in the process or he could have gotten a red ring and then did the towel trick to make a temporary band-aid so he could sell it as working.

Lost Odyssey is legit one of my favorite games of all time. Music, battle system, production values, story, all are genuinely awesome. It's an extremely high quality JRPG. In fact, barring one from this current gen that I'm not aware of, it is truly the first and only HD turn-based JRPG with traditional game play systems intact.

Do not even bother with Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, etc...not even Blue Dragon (even though oddly enough that was made by Sakaguchi too). Lost Odyssey is where it's at if you want the pinnacle of an old-school JRPG in HD.

I beg to differ... N64 was worth it for OoT, PS2 was worth it for Jak II, Wii was worth it for Galaxy, Xbox was worth it for Halo, SNES was worth it for Super Mario World

Easily one of the best JRPGs this gen.

I stopped playing Blue Dragon and traded it in for LO when I found out it existed.  One of my all time favorites.

Considering how people bitch about the difference between $55 and $60 for a new vs used game, I highly doubt even great games like those are worth $300+ dollars.  If you're getting a console for only one game and plan on getting nothing else, it's a massive waste of money and it will only make you like the console less.

If I could report you to an even higher mod, I would.  Blue Dragon was decent.  I'd started playing it but I got to a certain point and then got distracted by some other game.  Then, I went back and started it all over again.  I was having a good time but then, Mass Effect 3 came out and, once again, I never played Blue Dragon, again.

I'll be the first to admit that I have the attention span of a goldfish, but when it comes to a good RPG, that's different.  When an RPG like Lost Odyssey or even the much hated FF XIII gets its hooks in me, I don't want to play anything else for the entire length of the game.  I even bought Mass Effect 2 on day one but didn't start it until a month later because I was too busy playing Magna Carta 2 (not the best JRPG but fun) and nothing else seemed to matter.  I spent most of my time with Blue Dragon waiting for it to get to the good part.  I wasn't boring but it never became an obssession.

But, you know what they say.  Opinions are like assholes.  Everybody has one.  It's just my opinion.

LO was the reason I bought a 360 and is tied for my favorite RPG this gen (with Valkyrie Chronicles being the other) LO is worth it.

I kind of enjoyed Blue Dragon aswell, the thing that just was crap was the story but overall it did what I like in JRPG's being addicting to level up, lots of missions and secret missions and even the DLC was worth it. LO and BD deserve both a try from JRPG fans...But LO is overal the better one.
