uh... they will drop ps2 when there is no demand for it. probablly will happen about 6 months before ps4 but that isnt intentional. ps2 has another year left in it.

They said the PS2 is going to keep selling if there's demand, a lot of people are still buying the machine so I'll believe it when I see it.

The PS2 isn't going away any time soon. The PS4 launch would have virtually no impact on PS2 sales, not unless an absolutely drastic PS3 price cut came along with it and that's not happening, either. The PS3 is the device that's going to see manufacturing resources cannibalized. I imagine much of its production space is going to be converted to PS4 assembly.

Well this info is from Japan so they're probably just talking about Japan where PS2s don't really sell anymore. No way they're getting rid of PS2s in expanding markets though. Over there PS2s sell incredibly well because of the cheap price and incredible library of cheap games and it should still be selling well in those markets for years.


Incidently why is there such a difference between Mediacreate (1002) and Famitsu (343) Playstation 2 numbers? The numbers are quite considerably different. 



PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

They shouldn't discontinue it if there's still decent profit in the thing anyway, no matter when PS4/5/6 release. I'm not completely up to speed with PS2 sales, but from the looks of it it's still doing pretty well considering. Unless they are sure they will make more profit by devoting these resources towards manufacturing PS4's, I say leave it as is.

I have always been saying that I want the PS2 to outlive the PS3! PS2 just can't die this early :) It's too good and it still has a mission - get back ahead of the DS in terms of sales!



Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!
