Well, as we all know reviews are not to be trusted. Right?

Only when they give a score you don't like.

Both Galaxy games are ranked too high. Neither of them is even the top 3D Mario game in my opinion. That honor would go to Super Mario 64.

I respectfully disagree. While Mario 64 was a great first step into the 3D relm by the beloved mascot, I think Galaxy polished the formula to near perfection.

Sunshine gave us a glimpse of that greatness in the secret levels. But Galaxy delivered that kind of level design greatness and superbly tight controls throughout the entire game.

...and I respectfully disagree with your disagreement.  :p

Mario 64 encouraged you to explore an entire world and was new to the Mario franchise while the Galaxy games have deviated from this formula and made it more abou gettign from point A to point B like the 2D games.  Don't get me wrong, I love the Galaxy games, but prefer the N64 game.

But to me, platformers have always been more about reflexes and careful movements than exploration. Galaxy examplifies this much more than 64.

Yes, that's where preference comes in. I loved Super Mario 64 (and Sunshine almost as much) for allowing me to run and jump around a wide space, but love Galaxy equally for its incredible level design which makes it well worth all the praise it has recieved.

Galaxy 2 and 3D Land are also high up on my list, but neither had the impact of 64 and Galaxy.

As the game that seems to have permanently put me off 3D games, I'm not sure what to say, although this really isn't a surprise given how much people appear to love it. Oddly, I had a similar experience with OoT (3D). I'll never understand these reviewers' favourite games.

Galaxy 2 is the better game but I don't care as long as one of them is on top. lol three Nintendo games dominate the top!

It's not even the best Mario game...Most would agree.

I think most would agree that Mario Galaxy 2 is.

Maybe but I haven't played that one. Is it that much better than Galaxy? Because I didn't really like Galaxy.

No, not at all.  It's an extension of Galaxy 1, just with larger levels and deeper exploration, more to do, etc.  But it's very, very similiar to Galaxy 1.  I'm not the biggest fan of those games, either.  I think they're too watered-down and over-simplified.  I want an open-world Mario like Sunshine or 64.

I'm surprised to see so much hate towards Galaxy from this forum.

Imo, Galaxy 2 is by far the best platformer ever made.To everyone who say otherwise, I would say that I think that nostalgia is biasing their opinion I prefered Galaxy 2 over the first one but both are great. I think everyone would agree that Galaxy2 is Galaxy1 but better. Maybe this is why it's behind by 0.03%, maybe because some ppl tooke off a few pts for not being as new as Galaxy.

As for OoT, that game will forever be magical to me. The music is so unique. I would say that OoT was by far the better game back in the day. Back in the day nothing could possibly come close to the quality of this game but I wouldn't be able to say the same thing for Galaxy for today's standard. OoT imo had no competition back then meanwhile Galaxy does have rough competition from today's game (altho it has no competition in the platforming area).

So overall, I would say that Galaxy is the better game for today's standard, and is by far the best platformer ever. I can't say that OoT is the best adventure ever tho. But OoT is way more special for it's time, making it IMO the best game ever.

Just goes to show people value pretty grahics and great simplistic fun gameplay over anything deeper and richer.

It's really helping them sell consoles too lol...
