Like Nem, this is what I've been saying all along. Nintendo has set the stage for the next generation. We're going to have 2 consoles of comparable power, and one outlier; and the outlier will not be the development platform for multiplat games.
If true, this news almost guarantees Nintendo's victory this generation.

They'd be stupid if they went all out again (in terms of power).

While I think they're going for less of a power jump and therefore cheaper at launch than this gen, I don't think that has much to do with the Wii U's plan, I would hope that's what they'd do regardless because of how poorly the PS3 started out. You guys don't really think they had a 600 dollar sold at a loss monster all ready to go and saw the Wii U and thought "oh wait, shit, what were we thinking?" do you? I mean sure some people like to think Sony are idiots who only copy, but that just seems like an unreasonable assumption of stupidity.

They didn't exactly go all out in power this gen, the PS3's main cost factor was it's blu ray drive which at the time was extremely costly.

Wasn't PS3's graphics like a really big deal when it first came out? You're right, though; BR was mainly what made it so much more expensive.
I've been saying this since the beginning. There is no way that PS4/720 will be leaps and bounds more powerful than the Wii U like the PS360 were compared to Wii. Most of the games next gen will have a modest bump in the visuals department, but the tradeoff is they'll run smoother (should be locked at 30fps min) and be capable of better AI, physics, and multimedia functionality.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

From the discussions in the rumores specs of Orbis and SuperChunk's thread, even with the rumored hardware we should be able to get at least 3 times more power. And that comes from the numbers of the PC parts. Knowing that in a console the developers can get more power from the hardware, specially the graphics chip, that 3 times could end being 4 or maybe even 5 (hardly, but who knows?). It's not like with the A10 and that GPU it will be weak, it just won't be as powerful as some though. Just imagine what Naughty Dog will be able to do with 3 or 4 times more power! |
3x the ps3? ... that's not enough. that will allow for refinement moreso than revolution.
Those specs seem pretty spot on to me too. Anyone who was expecting the PS4 to rival today's high-end gaming PCs in terms of power really need to get their head examined. If you want a power PC, then buy a power PC.

Wii U certainly wont affect either next gen consoles power. If anything Sonys own financials will.
That being said if Sony doesnt get a big hardware jump then they are doomed next gen. It would give Sony fans very little reason to upgrade.
