What console will be manufactured by Sony in Brazil?

PS3 22 40.00%

PSVita 7 12.73%

PS4 10 18.18%

Telegame 8 14.55%

Great news!
If this is true, only Nintendo is gonna be left out from the big 3.
I never bought hardware from a store here since the good ol' Master System (a true national symbol lol) - everything is just so ridiculously overpriced.

Maybe now it will be just shameless overpriced like the 360.
We can only dream.

Good news. I guess instead of paying R$1400 ($700) we will be paying R$1000 ($500) for a Wifi Vita. '---'

We need moar Zelda, now!

We need moar Unchartedzz!

We need less DLCs.

Why would manufacturing in Brazil make much change to price?

Does brazil have huge import taxes imposed on companies to try and encourage them to manufacturer locally?

There are huge taxes for importing consoles, but I think there's more to it: another factory producing consoles to sell to South America (Mercosul specially), very low taxes for a long time (Zona Franca de Manaus) and a big market that's blooming lately here (Brasil!).

Yer ok. ONly reason I ask is because AUS must have some decent sized import taxes as we pay significant;y more than USA.

However if they manufactured directly here, the console would cost more than it currently does, as cost of living here is expensive so wages are really high.

Hopefully true because I will travel to Brazil next year and will be there like 5 or more, so I would like to buy a PS4 there if the price is not so expensive :D

Didn't reggie or some exec recently say they hoping the Wii can sell well in the other non traditional markets (well for Nintendo anyway) when WiiU launches.

Perhaps they got some unannouced plans?

But I agree, if there is benefit to producing in Brazil, perhaps they should.

Did you translate that yourself OP? Horrible job. You could have used Google Translate. Here ya go. Feel free to copy n' paste.

"The approval of the project $ 100 million from Sony by the Superintendency of the Manaus Free Zone (Suframa), last week, is still surrounded by some mystery. The first is uncertainty about which product will be manufactured in Brazil by the Japanese company. The text submitted to Suframa by Sony cites only the term "telejogo", quite possibly for reasons of confidentiality market. Within the range of branded products, it can mean both the Playstation 3 and the portable PS Vita (the imported version, incidentally, costs almost the same as the home console in the country).

Whatever the choice, there are many reasons to Sony to invest in this tropical country, blessed by God and gamer by nature. According to the Panorama report and Market Evolution of Games in Brazil, prepared by Sebrae, the local market is 40 million consumers, 51% of them over 19 years and economically active.

Even more impressive numbers were released this month in Brazil Game Show in Sao Paulo. The U.S. consultancy PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) says that the sector has the potential to achieve a turnover of U.S. $ 4 billion by 2016, with an average growth of 7.1% per year. Only in 2011 electronic games generated £ 840 million to the industry."

South american countries are very imaginative when it comes to taxes. Here are just some of them for Brazil:

  • Merchant Marine Renewal Tax (AFRMM)
  • Import Tax (II)
  • Industrialized Products Tax (IPI)
  • Merchandise and Services Circulation Tax (ICMS)
  • Contribution to the Social Integration Program and Civil Service Asset Formation Program (PIS/PASEP)
  • Contribution to Social Security Financing (COFINS)

Most are designed to protect domestic industries. The first one, for example, is a 25% tax if you arrive by ship...

Other taxes also range in the 0-35% range depending on how, when, what, why and whynot.. easily you get over 100% taxes with electronic gadgets.

Google translate is not very acurate, the translation you posted has some errors that don't reflect the original meaning of text in my native language.

I made my post short to avoid tl;dr comments, also around 50% of the text is not about the new Sony's factory, so I also tryied to avoid digressions on the main subjetc. Finally if you look carefully you will see that the last two paragraphs are so off-topic that I could made a new thread with each one them.

In a nutshell, I just wanted to focus on the good news to the Sony fans here: the new factory in Brazil.

=)
