There are huge taxes for importing consoles, but I think there's more to it: another factory producing consoles to sell to South America (Mercosul specially), very low taxes for a long time (Zona Franca de Manaus) and a big market that's blooming lately here (Brasil!).

Yer ok. ONly reason I ask is because AUS must have some decent sized import taxes as we pay significant;y more than USA.

However if they manufactured directly here, the console would cost more than it currently does, as cost of living here is expensive so wages are really high.
