Forums - Sony - Temporary European Vita price drop till the 31st of december

I wonder why they do a temporary price cut? Do they want to get rid of stock or something?

The AC bundle would be cool if it included a bigger memory card. Still, nice deals and for those who've been on the fence surely a great incentive to buy a Vita for christmas.

It is to get people buying today instead of in a few months. Basically it is a super sale.

By the end of the year Sony might have doubled sales thanks to this.

For the same reason Microsoft does it every year, because the holidays are a good time to build your installed base.  Consumers are actively looking for things to spend money on.  Advertising a price drop is an effective hook.  I know people who buy things because they're on sale even if they didn't really want those things in the first place.  Also, it's likely that manufacturing costs on the Vita have fallen significantly over the last year.

And the "good decision or desperate move" question some people are advancing is false dichotomy without a lot of real world merit.  I think it's a good move, but also one that's influenced by the low sales rate of the Vita.

Matches that US change in the 3G model. Maybe not a clearance for the model but just an aggressive seasonal price cut?

Unreliable source.

This was posted on N4G a couple of days ago, and nowhere else is reporting it apart from this source. Nothing, not a sausage from anywhere at all apart from this one site.

....Or they might not.

Every holiday I've seen PS3's go with a lower retail price of some 30 euros.

Don't be fooled. It's likely a PERMANENT price cut, right now being advertised as temporary to get you to buy one. Same trick as "call now and we'll throw in a...".

Whats the price of the 3DS in Europe?

OT: It will surely give a needed momentum, but the post-holidays effect will be very rough.

I have a Vita and love it but I'm inclined to believe that this is more of a desperate measure in order for the handheld to have a better holiday season than it otherwise would to make it look better for their investors!

As long as the company still make a profit on the hardware and game sales then I don't see a problem in doing this

What's all this bull about the Vita making a profit? Kaz himself said the system won't be profitable for 3 years. Numerous sites and analyst had already said the system is a bleeder for Sony's bottom line; such pipe dreams isn't gonna change the fact that Vita is losing money for Sony.   Anyways, this is a good move that is coming 6 months too late!!! Hopefully this helps sales as the system sales numbers so far are quite atrocious!!!  If a price-cut doesn't help the Vita, I don't know what will?
