You are right that a lot of people, the majority even, want to play short games but the sales for the psp and even some of the ds games suggest that there is also a market for bigger better quality games on handhelds. |
It is right there is a market for it and I think vita will pull through. Anyway this is the point about psp, 3ds is capable of pulling off what psp was. That is one of the challenges vita faces. People seem to have forgotten that sony were selling psp on the same thing. I saw people say "vita is offering true console quality" but that is what people said about psp. "Psp is offering console quality on the go". That is what they said at the time. Vita is offering hd quality. 3ds has more power then psp and has the power to offer that.
It seems like sony cloud people's thoughts at times. Psp was offering "console quality on the go". Did people forget that? That is partly the reason why vita is struggling in japan. 3ds is capable of what made psp appealing. But I am sure it will come around eventually.
One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D
Its called "momentum" and word of mouth. The longer Vita is in a funk the longer people will say to their friends it isn't worth buying.
And whoever said Vita can outsell 3ds weekly next year or anytime.......wow. Maybe for one week when hardware spikes on a killer IP, but then itll stabilize back to 3ds domination.
Dragon Quest VII + Monster Hunter 4 for the 3DS next Feb/March in Japan.
Good luck Vita. People don't play Western games on handhelds.
Well they're selling considerably slower than the Wii and the Wii is considered dead.
Tease.

I can see it outseling the 3DS next year. But not without a drastic pricee cut. Software alone will not get it anywhere close. |
I don't understand what's wrong with the price right now? $250 for a handheld that is nearly equivalent to a console? CHEAP!

Even during its first year the PS3 sold about twice what the Vita is selling weekly. It also got many 3rd party multiplats which the Vita doesn't have and had a lot better first party support as well. And Sony was willing to cut the price aggressively ($100/year).
I'm not saying the Vita is dead but there's a huge difference between "not dead" and "going to outsell the competition". If you guys seriously think the Vita is going to outsell the 3DS over the next years (which has Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter, Pokemon and Mario) you need to give more evidence than "the PS3 sold better over time". Because the Vita is in a substantially weaker position than the PS3 ever was. This is not a "wait for the $50 price cut" thing. Even if we assume sales will triple after a $50 price reduction (which is insane as no price cut ever had such a large effect) the Vita would only sell 100k units per week going by current numbers.

The ps3 is 6 years old, that is why.
