Thanks for these links. I haven't read this person before, but I certainly will going forward.

John Walker does some good stuff, he has does some actual journalism on Rock Paper Shotgun. You know actual investigation, contacting both sides of a story etc.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

I think the community on this site as a whole isn't entitled to any kind of opinion on this matter. Any commentary, or dialogue on this subject would be the height of hypocrisy. How can anyone here seriously decry censorship, or mob mentalities. When the rank and file here are egregious perpetrators in their own right. This is a censored society, and it isn't even about social niceties. This community is bound by a list of ideas that cannot be expressed. Not because they are particularly vulgar, or even cruel to others in this community. It is just that people don't like those ideas.

You have to admit it is kind of perverse that we can have conversations about politics, religion, race, and all kinds of human indecencies. Yet the moment someone says a inanimate object is a piece of shit, and the company that makes it fucking sucks. That person needs to be put in a time out box. They need to be punished for expressing such a unpopular point of view. Which is highly ironic, because they aren't the one with the problem.

The people with the problem are the uptight assholes who can't take such comments in stride. Without going off the fucking rails. Can we really call shenanigans on this whole situations. When we are equally guilty as charged. I mean we are one innocuous sentence away from exile, and so many of us are just one sentence away from going into a rabid fucking rage. All over what amounts to ten pounds of molded plastic, and scrap metal. What it really amounts to is we accept the fact that we need to be muzzled, because we might tear each others throats out.

Who are we to judge this whole situation. At best we are just as corrupt, and untrustworthy as those involved. At worst we are probably ten times worse. Ironically this whole thing seems ridiculously civil in comparison. All you need to do on these forums is say insert console sucks, and the same chain of events happening there happens in these oh so innocent forums. Someone will slide out of the woodwork, and demand that person be silenced, because they are undermining the self serving narrative that the complainer themselves is trying to perpetuate.

I say if you are more then willing to silence others. Then you can't possibly see any problem with others going so far as to do it themselves. You can't possibly decry another persons corruption when you are equally corrupt, and you can't possibly have problems with mobs. When you yourself are a torch bearer, and even if you can convince yourself that you are none of the above. Your obviously more then happy to go with the flow. Which means you are just as guilty. Even if you aren't the one gassing the Jews yourself. Your supporting those that do exactly that.

Can we just forgo the whole pot calling the kettle black.

Honestly.......who cares? We as gamers should just make informed decisions about what games we want and buy them. Gamers who frequent forums should talk and debate, no more. Lashing out and "fallouts" are a complete waste of time that people shouldnt concern themselves with.

I mean I read the OP and Im like: So? How does this effect me?

Stuff like this effects the entire industry (or at least the media side) which indirectly effects you. How game developers interact with media at large also effect the games that we're all exposed to pre-release. Also, not everyone has time to investigate every aspect of a game and you should be able to trust the gaming media to give opinions free from PR and bias. This suggests otherwise.

Aren't you kinda missing the point? None of us are professional "journalists", it's not our job to be critical of games and our posts aren't professional pieces (the proverbial bread and butter) that our livelyhoods depends on. We also don't get banned for quoting someone elses' POV (they'll get banned if it breaks the rules) which is the equivalent of what's happened here. Plus, if you don't like the rules, just don't post here. There are plenty of alternatives out there that give far more freedom. You're not getting paid for posting.... or are you?

If it doesnt effect the actual developement of the game then it doesnt effect me at all.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Excellent thread, thoroughly enjoyed it.

How do you hear about new games or new IPs?

Most likely it'll be through gaming media or forums which often get information from gaming media. So the gaming media will influence your future purchasing decisions (for better or worse) more then you realise.

LOL leave it to Rol to make it about the Wii even though the article didnt even mention it. Im actually with Sales on this one to an extent. This is 2012, if you want info you can find it despite the gaming media, you might have to just try a bit harder
