Considering Surface does considerably more than an Ipad I would say if Surface is overpriced then IPad must be destroying the Ozone layer with its price. |
The Ipad looks better though and is a fashion statement.

Apple Sony fanboys.. Apple Sony fanboys everywhere! Microsoft gonna smash with Surface, Windows, Xbox this Quarter. Watch and Learn how Microsoft is allways on TOP. Apple sometimes is on Top, other time was almot dead... Sony same thing... BUT Microsoft, man their are allways on TOP, you cant beat Microsoft, even if you try with all your forces! Here for the next Xbox and for a INSANE QUARTER THIS WILL BE FOR Microsoft. Windows 8 tablets sales will be insane, WP8 will pick up and Xbox will have once again a amazing holiday.. Surface will sell shitloads since they arent accepting pre orders anymore. New Office i didnt see anything yet but must be good. |
ECM a Sony fanboy ? hah, that's a good joke - not sure about the apple part
Am getting one no matter what the PO of people are. just for the hell of it.
| ECM said: I agree w/ the OP, BUT is anyone surprised by this? This is another, desperate, 'me too!' attempt by Ballmer Co., which has proven, repeatedly, that it simply can't make money outside of their core competency of OS' and Office apps. They *need* new blood in this company *desperately* and until they get rid of the dinosaurs steering the ship, repeatedly, onto the rocks, it won't happen at the top which is where it is in most desperate need of a transfusion. |
You're talking about 1 of the biggest companies in the world and acting like you have a clue. MSFT OS makes a ton of money and so does XBOX as well as XBOX LIVE. Kinect has been a success, Windows phones are gaining ground and are already approaching 3rd place in marketshare. The only failure they've had as of lately is the Zune Player which they are now renaming. They do smart business and as they bridge a tablet with notebooks it wouln't be doubtful that this is a success. MSFT doesn't make something for a year at a time. This is a long term investment. If you don't like XBOX, then that is fine, but what they did with it was a smart strategy. If you can't see that then you are blind. But to act like a company like MSFT is a failure is ridiculous, especially since most likely you are on a Windows PC right now?
To the original OP, no it will not have a lot of apps right out of the gate but it's windows 8, which will be the biggest OS in 2013. Windows has 85% of the OS market, so this is a recognizable product. Apps will be coming very quickly.

Its the big guy trying to shit on the little guy. Basically those using Legacy apps and love them cant understand how we dont care at all about them. It outperforms its competitors completely both in Sunspider and in multitasking. RT destroys Ipad and Android tablets yet because Pro is not here yet the crowd that would purchase that is trying to say us lower level lovers are pointless. Basically saying Ipad users and Android tablet users are also losers in the process. |
Performancewise Surface will be average at best. Tegra 3 is so bad it hurts, it should only be in cheap devices. The performance difference you are talking about (Sunspider) is more related to the software optimizations and will be gone before next week.
RT is crap Selnor. Just admit it. True W8 tablets will be miles better than anything on the market as long as you are ready to pay the price but that is another subject.

Looks are of course subjective.
Value again is of course subjective too based on individuals requirements and experience with any tablet they purchase.

But yet against its competitor the IPAD it beats it in every category.
Im ready to pay the same price as te market leader IPAD but get a faster system ( much faster in all tests ) and more functionality.
So for me RT is not crap. Compared to the speed of the pro its slower. Compared to current tablet market it kills it.
I will be very happy with its speed and its usage. I for one know what I am getting and what I want from it.
Im sorry that there are people who dont want desktop out there. But hey there is.
Alternitively I could buy an Ipad 3 for the same price and have less functionality, slower loading and app usage and no true multitasking. Eeeeekkk.
I dont want DESKTOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you get it?

The thing is, what you are saying is not true. Let alone beating the current offerings in every category, you'll be hard-pressed to find a category in which Surface is better than any other tablet.
Let me start. You say "faster loading and app usage". First of all, where did you get this? Most of the trustable reviews say that it isn't really fast. Here is an example from The Verge:
"When I was just dealing with the core OS, the Surface felt like a lively, sophisticated, fast-moving new system, but the deeper I got into apps and the more apps I opened, the more the device seemed to bog down. There were other issues too: video playback in the browser was a spotty experience. Flash content didn't fare too well in either the desktop or new browser, and some HTML5 playback stuttered and dropped frames during play."
" Many of the first-party apps — particularly Internet Explorer in the new interface — felt good to me, but others left me wanting. The native email application, for instance, could be slow to update and unresponsive to touch on a regular basis. Other apps, both first and third-party, could be slow to open, then stall or crash altogether. Some 3D games, such as Rocket Riot, seemed fluid and natural, while others staggered along, seemingly struggling to pump out an acceptable frame rate."
There is hardly any killing here.
"Usage."
Surface hardly provides any usage usage advantages. In fact, it is quite the opposite.
"The promise of the Surface was that it could deliver a best-in-class tablet experience, but then transform into the PC you needed when heavier lifting was required. Instead of putting down my tablet and picking up my laptop, I would just snap on my keyboard and get my work done. But that's not what the Surface offers, at least not in my experience. It does the job of a tablet and the job of a laptop half as well as other devices on the market, and it often makes that job harder, not easier. Instead of being a no-compromise device, it often feels like a more-compromise one. "
I can go on but no need to copy everything here. You can read the rest here: http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/23/3540550/microsoft-surface-review
Though I have to quote this:
"Let me put it this way: the Surface does not seem like a better tablet than the iPad or the Nexus 7 (the two best products in the category as of this writing). Even though it has a very unique and useful interface, and lots of hooks into Microsoft's ecosystem, it still lacks the polish and apps of those two devices. Is the mail client better here than the native mail client on the iPad or Nexus? No. Is the browser superior? Well, it's an excellent browser, one of the best I've ever used on a mobile device — but it's not wildly better than the iPad or Nexus 7 offerings. Is the interface so much easier to use or so much more powerful that it would tip the hand of an average buyer? Not in my opinion. Is the app selection better or more robust in some way? Not by a long shot, and there's no clear sign it will be anytime soon."
The things you've mentioned is not the best in the Surface, it is the worst. It is not really a surprise for me. What you are saying is though, pure fabrication. Surface is not better than a $200 tablet, not by a long shot. When the rumored Nexus 10 comes out, it will eat this alive. And probably won't cost as much. LOL. Do you get it man?
