Forums - Nintendo - Wii U. I thought it was cheap?

The mods have decided that selnor honestly didn't know some things about Wii U and is not trolling, so we're letting this one stand.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

The gamepad introduces new ways to play.
It does things like, showing the rear view mirror in a driving game, or using it like a shield to block arrows, or to hold your ninja stars that you swipe INTO the tv from the remote. There's a lot of cool things about it, and it really should be the one reason to buy a wiiU, not 4 player multiplayer lol.

Those are all just gimmicks. I have yet to see a Wii U game that uses the Gamepad and makes me think "this really makes the game better/more fun".

I've played ZombiU and Nintendo Land and I can tell you the GamePad brings something new to the table. I think gimmick is the wrong word. The GamePad functions exactly as it is adverstised. There's no bait and switch here, I promise.

selnor you are too stupid to own a Wii U.

It clearly does things that have as yet not been possible in games - See Zombi U, Nintendoland and other games with asymmetry. That's a good enough reason for me. As well as the handy keep playing when people want the TV on...

I have to say I would have loved it if it could have coped with 3 pads and a TV for ultimate COD multiplayer!

Also, the Wii U does come with a game. Mine is coming with Nintendoland for £300 altogether.

Anyway, back then hard drives weren't as cheap as they are now. Which brings me to ask, Nintendo, why only offer 8 and 32 gig Wii U models? It is 2012, you can do better.

Because they are not hard drives.  They are Flash memory.   Flash cost a whole lot more than a HDD does but they are a whole lot faster too.

Besides, why incude a big HDD when most gamers are going to replace it was something bigger anyway?  I don't know many PS3 owners that stuck with the included HDD.

Take a look at the first few minutes of this video.   That might move it beyond just a gimmick for you.

Keep in mind that most games so far are rush jobs trying hard just to make it in the launch window.   Give them the time to actually do what they want without a constrictive deadline and you might see a lot more innovative uses.

Uses it as a real shield in some of the NintendoLand stuff is pretty damn cool too.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

There is no UK bundle that is £309 with no game.

It's £249 basic 8GB - just the console.
£299 Premium 32GB with Nintendoland
£329 Premium 32GB with Zombie U and a Pro Controller.

They all come with one Gamepad.

Wait. I thought the Wii U was supposed to be priced well.

Now The top model which comes with only 32 gb HDD. ( WTF? 32 gb )

Is 309.99 GBP. No games.

An extra controller is 109.99 GBP

And a game is 49.99 GBP.

Now for me to buy a Wii U which I was considering at Crimbo with 2 controllers and 1 game is 469.97GBP ( About $752 US ).

WTF?????

I would have at least expected 1TB HDD and a bundle for around 350 GBP. Not Approaching PS3 launch price in my country with a controller and game. I could get a PS3 on launch day with an extra controller and game for 499 GBP in 2006.

This is putting me right off. To have 4 Wii U controllers it will cost me 329.97 GBP on top of the original Console price.

DISGUSTING.

The Wii U is going to support a maximum of 2 touch screen controllers, not 4.  You probably should do more research on a system you would think of buying.

Also, I would say that reliability is a big factor why Nintendo is going with flash memory instead of a hard drive internally.
