EA Wii U games require Origin and Nintendo Network ID

The Wii U’s online identity system hasn’t been fully detailed yet, but we now know that EA games at the very least will require a second layer of authentication.

 

In an update to EA’s privacy policy, as noted by GameSpot, the publisher has added a section dealing with the Wii U:

V. Information Provided To EA By Third Parties – 3. Wii U

If you sign up to play EA games through a Nintendo Wii U console, your Nintendo account information will be provided to EA so that we can establish an Origin Account for you. You need an Origin Account to play EA’s titles online. By signing up to play EA’s titles, you agree that limited user account information can be transferred to EA. Information transferred to EA includes your Mii information, email address, Nintendo Network ID, friend list, country, language and date of birth but does not include credit card number or other financial account information.

EA currently also requires PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 players to log in with their Origin IDs to access multiplayer and online features for certain games, as with Dragon Age and Mass Effect, for example.

The policy update contains yet another allusion the Nintendo Network IDs, which are expected to replace the old Friend Code system, which Nintendo is retiring.

all EA games have required a EA id for years now, they just call it an Origin id this is not news.

not sure about Wii but even your article in the OP mentions that it's required on PS360 games.

Multiplayers part only.

The WiiU Origin is for all games, regardless if it's single player. Or at least, that's what it sounds like to me.

I wonder if they will end up locking the disc to a single console and do away with lending your disc to someone else (or sell).

I think they already do the same thing for all their iOS titles too so they are pushing people on to it as much as they can.

I wouldn't be surprise if they try to push single players online, though. For example, SimCity5.

going forward all EA games will have some form of online/social feature yes. whether that is full blown multiplayer online or just a competitive leaderboard system ala Need For Speed Autolog.
