Duh, I've said this many times before. In order to get the attention American public you must make a shooter or some form of military shooting game. Uncharted used to be a fantasy game and Sony told them to shift their focus to a shooter. Sony doesn't want to be the Xbox, they want the American sales which tend to be focused in that slim genre. The only thing they would ever want from Microsoft is the formula to a top notch multiplayer shooter (Which Microsoft doesn't even have themselves, because they bought the company that thought it up), they are just working off of the skeleton with 343 that Bungie left behind and they are building around it. It's the same thing with Infinity ward and Trayarch.
Outside of finding the perfect military shooter and the proper online formula, Sony needs no other inspiration this gen from Microsoft. Quite frankly that is all Microsoft has truly brought to the industry. If you ask me as well, I've also been saying that if Sony was smart that they would keep investing in Japanese titles to keep the Japanese focused on them. Funding JRPG's instead of expensive militarys hooters like M.A.G. would've made them major profit and probably would have created newer mascots for the company than they've already gained. Think about it, that little two million gap between Microsoft and Sony would be erased, but guess what? Sony made the mistake and their sales in Japan are stunted when they could've been flourishing.
