While this isn't Nintendo's style, years ago there was a guy who lined up for the new Turok game (for the XBox/PS2 IIRC) weeks before it was released and after he got attention from the press he went home. Although I don't think it was confirmed, it was believed he was paid by a PR firm to line up as a way of hyping Turok.
