Lets just agree on one thing.
The US and Russia will never get along.

just wanted to respond to this part. those numbers are highly misleading. First off why calculate infant mortality significantly different than most countries. if we were to calculate based off the way say Germany does, then we are inline with Norway for infant mortality, and norway has one of the lowest in the world. Thats because many countries have "size" or "weight" requirements for it to be considered a "live" birth. the US on the other hand, a baby that shows any sign of life whatsoever is counted as a live birth. Also the US has a much higher rate of pre-term babies born than most other countries. Those babies die at 30x the rate than our average, and account for over half of all our baby deaths. As for life expectancy, again very misleading, we have pretty high homocide rate, and accidental deaths. if you control for those to factors alone, it greatly increases our life expectancy. To further that point, we drive a lot more than most countries, all that driving costs us many lives, that otherwise wouldnt have ended if we didnt drive cars so much (also all that driving means we get less exercise from things like walking and biking). Lastly we have food. a whole lot of food. A whole lot of unhealthy food. this causes many people to eat very unhealthy, and obviously this often causes death. If other countries stuffed their faces with cake as much we do, they life expexency would go way down. A better measurement would control for these factors, or we could look at survival rates from diseases or injuries. Which we lead the world in many of those. |
Point taken, and thank you for the info on why the figures may be misleading. My overall point firmly stands, though. The US has nothing to brag about.
Reminds me of the drunk who is wasted 7 days a week saying that his friend can't judge him because his friend goes on a bender and gets wasted once a month or so.
While the friend isn't perfect. He is far enough better in the area then his friends when it comes to being able to complain.

All countries have their double standards. America says they follow the Geneva convention, yet willingly allowed torture of their prisoners. Russia claims it is looking out for sovereign interests, such as Syria, yet it incarcerates band members for "hooliganism".
It's a bunch of childish bickering.
Russia is right, although Russia has worse problems than us. Also i don't really think any country would be much better than us given the power that we have. With that said, it doesn't excuse any of the horrible things the US has done in the name of "human rights."

Russia has more problems than the us that's for sure but the us isn't doing ok either. They both think they are "the best country in the world" and are allowed to do anything. I would even dare to say the us is one of the worst western countries to live in ( western= canada, us, uk, west- europe). Far worse than the uk or germany.
Um . . . yup.
What, should we condemn them back, or maybe look at ourselves, identify our wrongs and work to correct them, maybe serve as example for the world to follow?
Or, I guess we could just go into a corner and cry ourselves further into debt . . . maybe through our actions we could cause some poor people to start killing each other, then invest trillions into stopping it. At least someone is getting paid, and eventually, you know, all of us poor suckers will get paid too.
Waaaaaa!!!!
“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

It doesn't matter if it's Russia, China or the USA. None of them can talk when it comes to human rights, all 3 abuse them.
USA- Guantanamo Bay, Patriot Act, indefinite detention of civilians under Obama.
China- no human rights at all!, government does what it likes with it's people!
Russia- Chechnya, Putin's treatment of all opposition (eg pussy riot)
Before any of them can say shit on huamn rights, they should sort out their problems first. Talk about contradicting themselves! Especially Russia

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030
I am proud to live in Germany; we probably have the most improved human rights in the last 70 years =)
