Serves them right for not releasing more 2D Mario!

The Wii U should have forgone polygons altogether in favor pushing pixels and sprites like nobody's business.

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Even though the handheld market's days are numbered it's still impressive that Nintendo will be clear of 30 million 3DS' after this holiday.

They need the Wii U to be a hit badly, I don't think they'll have much trouble selling for the first few months, but that Feburary-August 2013 stretch will probably tell us a lot about how the broader market views the system and what kind of future it has.

You expect them to sell 8 million units?

Through the holiday season? Possibly. At least fairly close to it.

Won't happen, maybe 5, close to 6m.

They sold 3.68 million for the summer quarter, holiday quarter is generally at least double the July-Sept. period.

5 million is going to be a piece of cake, so will 6 mill.

Still I don't think Nintendo is happy overall with the 3DS sales as a whole, 17.5 million for the fiscal year is down from the 20-25 million type numbers the DS would put up. Now that there's a 3DS XL and NSMB2, a lot of excuses are running out.

At least Nintendo still has some portion of a handheld market though (unlike Sony).

Oh how the mighty have fallen. I guess these things go in cycles.

I think it's too early to be calling them fallen ;) the 3DS got profitable this summer, and the 3DS XL launched just a few months ago - and WiiU production should have kicked in, everything leading to the loss. Q3 might be profitable, as should Q4.

Edit: Haha I spoke too soon! Apparently WiiU will be sold at a loss, so they might not at all be profitable Q4 :P

I expect they'll get back on their feet soon, hence the reason why I said these things go in cycles. Ninty'll get back on their bike soon enough. Anyway even with the loss on the hardware, selling the $350 bundle and their pack in games plus 3DS stuff ought to get them in the black strongly. I think the most popular bundle will be the $350 one as it seems the no brainer choice for early adopter/big fans plus it has a lot more than just a game and more HDD space as it comes with some nifty accessories.

Only problem is, that it never goes in cycles for Ninty :P they're ALWAYS profitable ^^ but, yeah, I agree with you: they should be alright :)
