Soundwave said: Even though the handheld market's days are numbered it's still impressive that Nintendo will be clear of 30 million 3DS' after this holiday. They need the Wii U to be a hit badly, I don't think they'll have much trouble selling for the first few months, but that Feburary-August 2013 stretch will probably tell us a lot about how the broader market views the system and what kind of future it has. |
You expect them to sell 8 million units?

Through the holiday season? Possibly. At least fairly close to it.

Won't happen, maybe 5, close to 6m.

They sold 3.68 million for the summer quarter, holiday quarter is generally at least double the July-Sept. period.
5 million is going to be a piece of cake, so will 6 mill.
Still I don't think Nintendo is happy overall with the 3DS sales as a whole, 17.5 million for the fiscal year is down from the 20-25 million type numbers the DS would put up. Now that there's a 3DS XL and NSMB2, a lot of excuses are running out.
At least Nintendo still has some portion of a handheld market though (unlike Sony).
