Isn't it pretty much like how Sony names its game consoles? Except with a number Nintendo used an alphabet. That's all.

haha I remember when the name "Wii" was first announced; I didn't really follow gaming news much and had only read the name in articles. I kept pronouncing it as "doubleyou-eye-eye" hahaha XD

Anyways, @the bolded: this! I even remember when NGP turned to Vita not too long ago, it was a bit weird at first but not now.

The name is quite stupid to be honest. I mean they chose Wii with 2 i's so everyone on the planet can pronounce it. But then they chose U which in german is OOH for example. Makes no sense.

The console should be called Yuu or Wii2 but WiiU defeats the purpose of Wii being written with 2 I's.

That being said, It's true that the name doesn't sound as cool as ''Xbox'' or ''Playstation'' in a conversation with friends, but Wii sounded so dumb before launch, then it became mainstream and no one was ashamed of saying the word ''wii'' in a sentence.

To be honest I hate the name Wii. It screams Nickleodeon Junior before bedtime on Cable or Sky. Here kiddies come watch Bob the builder before you brush your teeth.

On a serious note; yes, I always found the name kind of silly as well, but I can't say that I have any better suggestions...

Though I don't like the name, I predicted it except I thought it would have been the name of their online network as in Wii Universe. This thread though is terrible. Those examples and reasonings are completely counteractive to discussion. Comes off as hateful rather than critical. What's wrong with you?



Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
