So many threads on these numbers. When its obvious to anyone who knows anything about sales, that the numbers here are just wrong for this moment in time.

Desperation.

Yeah, the numbers on VGChartz are definitely wrong. I believe the numbers for the Wii and PS3 are probably the numbers for period ending June 2012, as we haven't see any announcement for their 1Q2013 sales (July 2012 - Sept 2012). The reporting guy at Gamespot most likely neglected to mention that.

No the 63.9 million for the ps3 is from march 31.  In the link it shows all the recent numbers from all of the companies.

Uummm.. it says at the top of the post that those are VGC Estimated Sales. Where is the source from Sony & Nintendo?

When mods lock a thread for its content it's not a very good idea to then try and restart the thread. Just drop it as you're on very thin ground according to the site rules.

If you want to start a thread then do a celebration thread on the 360 reaching 70 million, there is no point making numbers comparisons until Sony and Nintendo announce their shipments for the same period. Even then the comparison is flawed. The only hypothesis you can draw from the 70 million shipped number is how many consoles were left on shelves when compared to VG Chartz numbers. They would seem to indicate the 360 numbers are there or thereabouts.

Well the thread was closed in error. He stated that the numbers weren't in the article, but the numbers were in the video which he obviously didn't watch. I wasn't able to answer the questions about it because I was at lunch. Yes, we need to wait for the numbers from Sony and Nintendo. That's an error on Gamespot side for not providing what period those numbers were for.

Read again. It says reported shipments and vgc sales estimates. The post shows shipped, estimated sold, and estimated at retailers for all three and it doesn't have the latest ps3 and wii shipments because they are not reported yet.  The 70 million is shipped/sold to retailers and VGC shows sold to consumers.

lol that thread was chaotic haha I would take a guess that sony has shipped/sold around 3 million in the last 4-6 months. We won't really know though for sure though because they are combining PS2/PS3 figures now from what I've heard. I could be wrong though. It does appear it may be a little overtacked on here at the moment, but I don't think anybody should take that as a bad thing. Sony is still doing a good job either way and they're releasing good games.

On a side note, congrats to Microsoft and the Xbox brand. Big accomplishment for the newcomer.

Okay please someone explain. Is it 70 million SOLD to CONSUMERS or 70 million Sold to RETAILERS (Shipped)?

Sold/Shipped are the same thing.  There is no way you can be 100% accurate on sold therefor shipped is the only accurate information you will ever get.

The 63.9m sold is for 31th March, 2012.

+ Q1 FY2012: ~1.8-2.0m
+ Q2 FY2012: To be released in the first week of November.

Sony shipped at least 68 million... that's a known fact.

XanderZane said:

Hhhmm.. no one has announced Q2 numbers. These are 1stQ 2013 (July 2012 - Sept 2012) numbers they are talking about.

The Sony numbers are Q4 FY2011... 63.93 million (31th March, 2012)... after that Sony shipped more 1.8-2.0 million units in Q1 FY2012.

Now Sony and Nintendo will release the Q2 FY2012 numbers.

Microsoft uses another Fiscal Year... so Microsoft release the Q1 FY2013 numbers (70 million).

One column show Reported Shipped and another VGC Estimated... Kowen compare the two numbers.

The source can be found in Sony and Nintendo sites... it's public.

so...the point of this thread was to continue the chaos of the other thread?

Pretty much this....

I completely agree that the 360 does deserve a thread celebrating 70 million consoles sold. I don't see the point of using old sales figures for data that hasn't been confirmed yet. Technically, we don't have the "official" numbers for the 360 even. We just know they announced it has surpassed the 70 million threshold. The thread was not closed in error. It was closed out of the fact it was a misrepresentation of the numbers.

Whenever the big 3 announce their official numbers, a thread like this would be fine.

Which is why I'm going to lock this thread as well.

70 million is official... shipped sales til 30th September, 2012... and it's not over or under it's a 70 million... not more or less.

You can even find the Microsft's financial report with all data.

The number showed to PS3 is dated (31th March, 2012).
