The big players for Windows 8 (apart from MS) are Samsung and Dell. HP tablets never really took off but who knows with Windows 8.
Samsung and Dell also produce Android devices so it will be interesting to see that inhouse battle.

I have no hate for android, iOS or Windows and I am bias to none.

As usual time will tell so I will wait for a couple months or so.

So your comparing a ui not designed for touch ( Windows 7 ) to the release of an actual ui designed for touch ( windows 8 ).

But to your major point. Who the hell thought Windows 7 tablets were gonna beat a ui from Android and IOS designed for tablets?

Ive never even seen a Windows 7 tablet on sale in any store. Ever.

The surface wont too well off the bat, but the licensing of Windows 8 in 3rd party tablets can be very huge indeed

Microsoft Surface might do well, but windows 8 tablets will be very popular i think. They will probably replace windows netbooks and at least the cheaper windows laptops

Well they should of made the price like 199 or something i don't get why MS thinks they can price their stuff the same as Apple when they are kind of new to the whole Tablet market.

I am just happy that people will have the option of essentially combining all the good in the iPad in terms of battery life, portability and form factor with the flexibility and comprehensiveness of the Windows eco-system. I find Apple stuff often gets complicated due to excessive simplicity; see iTunes vs regular file system drag and drop and Android seems wierdly counter intuitive and difficult. If you really want a good experience then why wouldn't you pay twice the price for a Windows Pro tablet which has 5-10* the performance of the iPad?

Microsoft Surface tablet back-ordered as new iPad looms


Call it round one of a Microsoft-Apple hardware heavyweight bout.

A few days before the expected rollout of Apple's new tablets, all Microsoft Surface tablets are now officially back-ordered in the U.S.

A Microsoft representative confirmed with CNET today that delivery of three Surface RT models has been pushed back.

On Tuesday, the same day that sales were launched, the order status of the $499 model (32GB) quickly slipped to three weeks.

Now the $599 Surface with the black Touch Cover (keyboard/cover, 32GB) and the $699 Surface with the black Touch Cover (64GB) are back-ordered "one to two weeks."
