Sony wouldn't have this problem if it weren't so stubborn to not release a few Mario games to save Vita from becoming Playstation Nex.

The Vita doesn't need saving (at least in Japan that is), it just needs to start selling better. Like a lot.
I think the Vita will have an okay holiday with the current line-up, but the only real game out of that list that will move hardware is the Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation bundle.

Therein lies the problem...if the desired consumer is a PS3 owner, why would you offer them console experiences on a handheld when they already have those experiences on a big tv?
Holidays lineup alone can support its sales in the short term, to "save" it, that is to make it start selling at healthy levels regularly, Vita needs ALL the measures needed for any portable: an affordable price that stays decent even adding a memory card, and, obviously, a good and growing games library with enough system seller games. The games library is growing and obviously it will grow even more if HW sales better, so the missing measures now are securing some system sellers and cutting price at the right moment.
| DemoniOtaku said: Vita I think just now need more is promotion and marketing... and less DOOM articles... is like game journalist's hobby is to talk DOOM about Vita and SONY recently... Seriously... (And a Price Drop on those f*ck*ng expensive MemCards!) |
| Panama said: It's got a very solid first year library. These doom articles keep focussing on software when the obvious problem is that it costs too much and has proprietary memory that also costs too much. Not even Mario could save it at that price point. |
The doom articles show up because VITA's numbers continue to be low and nothing Sony has done so far changed it. Maybe a price cut would help but that's not coming before this Christmas. It's basically up to these games to sell VITA for this holiday season at current price point.
| DemoniOtaku said: And You can't say the console is 250$ when is already heavily bundle with games and 4gb memcards for the same price.. Madden13, Assasin's creed, LBP, and later: PASBR, COD:BOD, NFS:MW.. in Japan with Every body's golf and Hatsune Miku Project Diva... |
That's right. In Japan, those bundles cost way more than $250.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

Do you think Vita will stay at 3m forever? |
No, but it won't get much higher unless Sony gives it a price cut, and gives it more good games.

games and consoles in japan cost much more than on other markets... The prices on those bundles are same as the console alone...

These new bundles don't fare much better. Reason 1: It's the 3G model, probably the one with the lowest demand by a longshot. Second it's an old game that's already in the bargain bin. This bundle to me is just to clear inventory of the 3G model and move unsold stock for an old game. The economy here is minimal, and not that much desirable for the average buyer (which would be the Wi-fi model + new game + memory card for the same price)
