Genes may play a role big role in it, but it's obviously a recessive gene since the estimated 10% (which somebody has argued with me before but we also have to keep in mind there are a lot of closeted people out there who are afraid to come out between minor things like afraid of being judged by their friends or actual persecution by their government). Somebody also brought up nurture over nature. Instead of arguing against one or the other, I feel it could be both. Two things helped me determine that I was gay. I realized that the women I thought I was attracted to was because of admiration not sexual attraction. The second thing that helped me determine that I was gay was that I realized, that, well, I liked guys. With the whole "nurture" thing, my parents raised me to be whoever I wanted to be. I felt like I was free to discover who I was at a young age. There are people who do "homosexual acts" with other men that still view themselves as heterosexuals (so much to the point where they have wives and kids). |
Why is that exactly? I have spent years trying to hypothesize why I love being around dominant women. I always thought I could become deeply emotionally in love with one, just never sexually. One of my best friends is a girl, 22, and she rules her life like "boys" do, she isn't uptight but knows what she wants and just goes for it, she doesn't abide by female standards of how they should act around sex. And I LOVE her for it. Me and her make out every now and then when we are drunk,sometimes sleep in the same bed, but its all in good fun.
Maybe this is similar to the "Bromance" that so many hetero guys seem to be in. It has all the good parts of a relationship(dates, sharring everything, hang out all the time, super chumy) minus the factor of sex.

If homosexuals chose to be gay then theoretically straight people must have made a decision at some point to be straight, but i can't remember ever doing that

Bolded: It shouldn't have made you believe that really. The studies you are talking about measure hormones effects after birth, not during fetal development in which major brain (and other organs) differentiation (shaping) occurs under the effect of the mother's + fetus' own hormones.
Also, Hormones on their own are useless, so measuring their levels sometimes don't reflect the real picture. Hormones in general get secreted and circulate the body looking for their receptors to attach to and exert their actions. So you need "Hormones+Receptors" for any effect to occur. I'll try to explain further:
For example, the pancreas secretes insulin which then attach to receptros that are present on muscles' cells facilitating glucose entry in order to keep your blood glucose levels within normal levels. There are 2 ways by which you can get diabetes (unhealthy high blood glucose levels):
1) Low insulin levels.
2)Insulin receptor defects. (that's why some diabetic patients have high insulin levels, to try to compensate for the defective receptors)
You can apply the same exact principles to all hormones, for example, imgaine gay people having diminished testosterone receptors in their brain cells, what could be the outcome? This is all just oversimplified and I am not even suggesting that my brain cells lack testosterone receptors 
, I am just trying to explain why you shouldn't rule out hormonal effects because of the studies you have mentioned.
But yeah, bottom line is the matter isn't so clear-cut. People shouldn't stress anyway unless it's for purely scientific reasons and curiosity.
