Forums - Gaming - iPad Mini unveil Oct 23rd? UPDATE - its official

$330 price tag. More than I expected. Looks like Apple wants to stay out of the race to the bottom.

ipad 4th generation:

A6X chip!

2X cpu performance vs. A5X (in ipad 3)

2x gpu performance vs. A5X

lightning connector (of course)

same price as previous ipad.

I'm actually a little disappointed. I wanted an iPad update in March with a slimmer, lighter design, and now I have to wonder if that will happen, or if fall is the new refresh cycle for iPad.

Is Apple now refreshing all their key products in the same quarter, or are they switching to a frenetic 6 month product cycle?

Well they had to increase the size to accommodate the larger battery required for the retina display. I imagine it's still the same problem until they can get some else like IGZO technology for the screen.

This seems like just a minor refresh to the standard ipad. The A6X as well as an HD facetime camera and of course getting all of their latest products fitted with the new Lightning Connector.

It was strange having their top of the line iphone with a better cpu than the top of the line ipad. Until now it was the other way around. ipad 1 (A4) later iphone 4 (a4), ipad 2 (a5) later iphone 4s (a5), ipad 3 (a5x, with pretty much the same cpu with quad core gpu) and then the iphone 5 (with the faster A6). The A6X makes sense for the ipad to be the most powerful. (as well as making it "newer" for the holiday shopping season)

They probably will try and make it thinner in the next iteration.

This comes off more like an iPad Touch than true iPad mini.

Specs of yesterday...today! In a smaller size!

If the price is under 299 tho, its pretty damn good.

The A5 is still competitive with the Tegra 3 in the Nexus 7 and the Surface RT. The Nexus 7 has a better display for its size, but not radically better, IMO.

The A6X on the other hand, crushes everything else in this space.

It's not too terrible for the price, but I already have an ipad 2 as do millions of people.

I really hate the new trend of making the flagship device smaller and imediatly a generation behind. Galaxy SIII mini isn't even as good as Galaxy SII and now this...

They can't drop it lower because the iPod Touch is already $300.

Ipod touch and this are completely different devices and markets.

They can charge whatever they for the touch as no one else makes anything similar. As long as its lower than the iphone there will be people who buy the touch...

$329 seems a bit high considering they are including an A5 SoC and 1024 x 768 screen. $50 less would've been better. I guess they priced the ipod touch 32gb at $299, so the ipad mini 16gb needed a slight premium over that.

I guess my ipad 3 is no longer the newest one out. The A5X in it still runs great, so I have no problems with that. I hope the next version tries to be thinner and lighter as this ipad 4th gen is just a minor refresh.

Apple really are kinda stupid, they ripped on nexus 7's smaller screen, you can't really compare your product to the nexus. They are very different and the price is nearly double! Nexus 7 is $199/ $249 and ipad mini starts $329, a big difference. Also, it's not android's though that they don't have many proper tablet apps, thats up to the developers

Not to mention that 1024x768 doesn't look too hot at 7.9 inches. I absolutely hate the ppi density on my ipad 2. Looks atrocious for text.

This will be slightly less terrible...
