Forums - Sony - Did us PS+ subscribers help fund the new PSN Store redesign?

Slimebeast said:

PS+ is not a smartest thing Sony ever did, it's actually a bad strategy. It's too valuable for the subscription rate gamers pay. Those free games PS+ members get will steal time and essentially cause members to buy less games that aren't discounted.

Also there's this non-beneficial psychology involved, lots of people will hold off from buying new games they have had their eyes on because they are hoping these games will be free on PS+. This is especially true for typical PSN games.

I can only go to myself and attest that it works like this. Being a member I simply refuse to buy anything that's full price on PSN.

All in all PS+ is great for gamers but not great for Sony.

Any proff of your claim. The last time i check we love buying things at a discount, it keeps us coming back, and thats the point. I dont see sam club, costcos or any oter business that gives their customers some type of discount program trashing their program. What evidense do you have of this? I want weblinks and numbers please......

if that is the case, maybe if they get more subscribers, they will re-design the XMB :D

they'll change all that with the PS4.

I have a question, is not supposed that the free DLC on PS+ is kept when your suscription run out? I ask because mine just passed and the free animals on Tokyo Jungle are not longer accessibe for me

Does anybody have any info on how many subscribers there are?

Assuming there's 1 million it's made $50-100 million just off subscription fees.

But how much of that is now owed to publishers and developers who's games were offered for free or discounted? Naturally its a debt that will continue to build throughout the year as sony offer more deals and free games. PS Plus is a strange one, definitely value for the consumer though,  I became a member at the begining of this month.

I HIGHLY doubt Sony is paying these publishers to offer these games for free.......this is more like a promotional tool as I have said above. It benefits both Sony and the 3rd parties.

oh they definitely pay the publishers - otherwise there is no reason at all why some games came to plus members for free day 1 (Stacking, Virtua Fighter 5 Final, Trine 2,..)

Sony reported afte the Plus the paid content inceased too... so guys like me buys the content with plus discounts like add-ons and other games.

The PSN Day 1 Digital is selling well too... 10% off for Plus users.

Even with discounts the Plus is the smartest move Sony did in the last years.

It might have helped, but I doubt a redesign like this would cost that much money, especially for a company of sony's size
