Sonic the Fighters, Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter 2 release dates revealed

We could play them sooner than we thought

Looks like the digital release of three classic Sega fighting games is coming sooner than we might have originally thought.

A few days ago we told you that Germany USK’s had published a rating for them, but now Spanish news site Sonic Paradise has reported that Sonic the Fighters, Fighting Vipers, and Virtua Fighter 2 digital releases are dated by blog site More Bees to be released on XBOX Live on January 2nd.

This blog site reported those release dates, along with several other games (some already known to the public, and some others who are yet to be announced by their respective developers) four months ago, so that surely adds some credibility to their word.

Moreover, Sonic Paradise also reported that XBLA releases unofficial Twitter account also listed the three games recently to their upcoming game list, giving even more evidence to the fact Sega is going to release them soon.

Sega hasn’t officially announced any of the games yet, but it’s only a matter of time we’re hearing some official word on this. Meanwhile, why not play some Sonic the Fighters , Fighting Vipers or Virtua Fighter 2, on their already-published console ports?

Was Sonic fighters even released? Or am I thinking of that Sonic R game?

I could very well be thinking about Sonic Xtreme.  I remember reading in a gaming magazine about a 3D Sonic game for the Saturn.  I just can't remember if it was the fighting game or a regular Sonic.

You are thinking of Sonic Xtreme. Sonic R was released to both Saturn and PC (like Rol said), and (which i forget to mention before) Sonic the Fighters was arcade-only until 2005. Sonic Xtreme never came to be, largely due to conflicts between Sega of Japan and SoA
