Forums - PC Discussion - Squadron 42 - Star Citizen Trailer - Chris Roberts space flight sim, Wing Commander, Freelancer etc $7m+ total raised

Currently at $3,301,787 with a week to go $4 mill seems very doable (if not a sure thing) with the last day spike, hopefully they release a new trailer or something to spark interest in the last days. Another round of interviews wouldn't hurt ether.

Finally I've been waiting for something like this since Star Wars Rogue Squadron

so people fancy star citizen a lot more than elite by the looks of the cash

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

ok i pledged $35 for star citizen,£15 for elite and £10 for sir you are being hunted as i had a bit of cash for a change, quite a lot of stuff on kickstarter isn't there, although i used the actual site for star citizen anyway should be a nice surprise when the time rolls around

                                                                                                                                        Above & Beyond

They have a much better pitch and looks like they are actually prepaired to make a game, rather than looking like they just threw together a me too pitch in a couple hours like Elite thats why.

yes star citizen looks like they are in business, after watching all the videos they are essentially the same game aren't they,

i assume i bought a version of star citizen but i'm never too sure, dudb't really have that option with elite but gave them some money to support some brits anyway and elite is original,

i missed broken sword,i wish i ghad some cash when you put that one up as i would have boutgh a special one of those as i like broken sword, shame they close it,i'd still pay them money for an exclusive copy but i guess they hit their target so don't need anymore,i feel sorry for some of those games i see taht don't take off,it's like a catch 22,mo one bids,no one else bids, they really need the help of some people to get these projects off the ground or be established names from the past

Chris Roberts has made games in the genre before, you might recoginse some elements from his past games like Wing Commander, Freelancer etc in the pitch.

I wouldn't really call Elite: Dangerous original I mean it's another Elite they already made 3 of them back in the day, and they are promising to be just like those but with multiplayer (which honestly sounds a bit like Star Citizen's multiplayer, and the synic in me kinda thinks they knocked off after they saw the pitch). They they did invent the genre tho so I guess there's that.

As much as I like the procedural generation of Elite, the grand scope and ambition of Star Citezen is more apealing to me with the space opera story driven campaign, hand authoredcontent, and AAA production values are more apealing to me. That and Chris Roberts' passion and enthusiasm is infectious.

yes i remember when i used to see wing commander games and wish i could play it but PC's were well out of my reach back then it all seemed so glamorous, yeah i mean't elite was original as in back in the day, starcitizen certainly looks the better idea in progress, they are nearly at $3.5m they must be delighted to have that kind of start, amazing really

Right, a far better pitch. But also a risk of overpromising. I've read several articles of how unrealistically ambitious this project is and that it's almost guaranteed to disappoint in the end.

I really want it to succeed though.

An indie game with a $14 million budget ($4 mill crowdfunding + $10 million from risk capitalists) over two years of development is truly exciting!

Well the plan is to keep updating the game past launch, they likely won't manage to deliver everything at launch. But if it's a success it should continue to evolve long after launch.
