I'll get one once it gets a lot of cheaper. Also a possibility to run your own code would be nice.

My reason: I am not interested in this type of over-techie portable gaming device.

gaming gadget of the year? who voted on this? gaming media?
The people (aka the consumer) determines what the real gaming gadget of the year is. Sadly it is the iphone 5 atm.
I don't want to play console games on a small screen. I played Uncharted on Vita and to be honest it turned a good game into a mediocre one. visuals were great for handeld, but it provided nothing different from consoles and to be honest Id rather play that kind of game on a 40" screen.
Im happy with Xbox Live on the move.
In my opinion it is all about momentum. Sony should have cut the price when they saw that the vita was struggling big time. E3 would have been perfect, but even TGS would have been a good option. I realise that they probably can't afford it, but the system might die soon, if they don't do something drastic.
One of the reasons games like Cod and warcraft sell like crazy is peer pressure. I just bought Guild Wars 2 because a friend insited we play it together. I have neither the time, nor spare money, but I bought it anyway. The vita has lost its momentum and has been getting tons of negative articles which makes the possible new buyers lose hope and think it's not cool to own one.

I'm in the same boat. If the PSV was a phone, I would have completely passed over it as a gaming platform. Wouldn't have even considered buying one. Why? My two platform options for smartphones are either iOS or Android (sorry Windows Mobile). And no, I'm not paying for a second two year contract so I can play more games. So make the Playstation Vita an Android phone only with buttons and sticks? That's great for Playstation gamers who want to make their portable double as their phone, but no one else looking for a "serious" smartphone is going to pick up the one with the gaming buttons, d-pad and analog sticks unless they're equally "serious" about portable gaming. I certainly wouldn't pick up a two year service contract for a PS Vita Phone. I would have just been slightly ticked at not being able to play any PSV games that caught my interest on account of not wanting to enter a two year service contract just to do so, but I'd get over it. The other thing to keep in mind in regards to the PS Vita Phone, is that it remains a viable option. The PSV would be the iPod Touch to the PSV compatible phone's iPhone. SCE wouldn't even have to market it as the "Playstation Vita Phone" since that would limit the target audience. They could just make a smartphone that is compatible with PSV games, using the same SDK with either controls built into the phone (resulting in an Xperia Play like device) or, and probably a better option; design a slick cradle device with a supplementary battery that houses all the physical controls, to be removed when it's simply not appropriate to bust out a phone with joysticks and face buttons on it during a meeting. |
Agreed on all points.

Gaming on: PS4 Pro, Switch, SNES Mini, Wii U, PC (i5-7400, GTX 1060)
Just because something gets an award doesn't mean it'll sell.
As an extension of an earlier post. Good stuff doesn't sell... popular stuff does. Doesn't stop Vita being the best thing to happen to gaming this year though.
