Forums - Politics - Mitt Romney. 27 lies in 38 minutes.

The very first thing wasn't a lie. So i'm going to guess the rest weren't either, and this is just another of your general lame talking points things taken off Moveon.org or something.

Even the more liberal fact checking places really didn't see to find tooo much wrong with either side in the debate.

Only thing I can think of Is Romney mistakenly referring to unemployer+underemployed as unemployed.

They both told a ton of half-truths with a few lies sprinkled in.  I don't think we should let them off the hook by just thinking they were mistaken.

As long as Romney keeps his plans vague, he's going to have a huge advantage in debates, especially when he can just cite "studies" by his own advisers that say his tax plan will work.

Stopped reading after only a few "lies". Gosh I love these die hard supporters of one candidate over another saying whatever they can against the opponent. You do realize this only hurts your team, right?

They both aren't amazing candidates but Obama I feel is the lesser evil who will do some good at least.

Obviously job report was taken as a good thing but its 7.8% which is still pretty awful.

Im not even a Republican Id take Clinton again ANY day. Obama has failed policies end of story

its not 7.8. it will get revised up. as it has for like 40 straight months or whatever it is.

its a continuing tred during the obama administration. release job report, that isnt as bad as it could be. Media talks about how good the economy is doing, how great their lord and savior Obama is doing, getting tingles up their leg. Then a month later, unemployement numbers are revised up. by that time the media doesnt care, doesnt report, and people dont find out.

this happens every time. literaly every time.

edit: a lot of people think these job numbers are fixed. i tend to agree. they will get adjusted massively, but not until after the election.

also after reading the first few, and noticing they werent lies, i stopped reading. this list is ridiculous. did you get it from media matters. the list is lies.

Nah its not and Im not sayin Mitt is the best choice either

But I dont see how anyone defends Obama anymore. The mans a failed president, the worst in my lifetime, and is leading the slowest recovery in US history.

Im not even a big Romney supporter at all but Obama is beyond awful

This will be a little glib...

I'm not going to defend Obama, but you ought to look at the rest of the world. It's failing catastophically. In this environment all would 'fail'. Individual Presidents make little difference. We all know that continued economic growth is unsustainable. You need a crash to keep the myth of growth going.

Maybe the US is in a position of relative decline and thus the problem is not the fault of any one man/woman.

Also, mass permafrost meltdown denial. And not just in the US.

There are a few straight-out lies in there, and several exaggerations that should be called out.  For example, 26) “I think about half of [the green firms Obama invested in], of the ones have been invested in have gone out of business. A number of them happened to be owned by people who were contributors to your campaigns,” is a complete lie, and I have no doubt it's an intended lie.

The thing is, the candidates know they can lie on debates because only a small percentage of viewers will see the fact checks the next day.

The problem with lists like in the OP is that partisan organizations pad the "lies" with things that are only lies if you believe highly partisan sources.  That kind of tactic really does them no service and allows others to dismiss the entire list.  Conservative sites will be doing the same elsewhere, have no doubt, and I'm sure we'll see a thread of Obama "lies" pop up soon.  In my opinion, it's much smarter to distribute a list of undeniable lies with trustworthy sourcing.

Yeah, a story from "thikprogress.org" is really going to fairly evaluate claims made by Mitt Romney ...

Here's a much less biased source which demonstrates that both sides were (roughly) equal in how dishonest and misleading they were:

I agree with you.  Modern Presidents have little control over the economy.  Many of the "best" Presidents just had the good luck to win office during the up-cycle.  The senior Bush, for example, had to deal with Reagan's tab.

An old man told me several days ago that Romney would fix the economy in 6 months.  I just stared at him.

There's a great essay at the end od War and Peace that makes the case about the weak role of individuals in the big picture.

Then again, there's the Butterfly Effect.

Question on bolded from a non US citizen:

Why do people have to wait for the next day to check facts based off of some site or something? Shouldnt the majority of US citizens know the facts simply by living through the facts??? Or am i missing something here? Its not like they were talking about overly complicated issues or detailed implementation plans...

They should not be able to flat out lie so easily and fool an entire nation. And then ONLY get caught the next day through some fact checking thing!
