Forums - General - Are you Pro-life or Pro-choice?

I am pro-choice. Aren't the pro-lifers the same people who are complaining about immigrants being a burden on our country? It think more unwanted babies and single mothers would be an even bigger burden for the country.

Are there enough people willing to adopt all the unwanted babies? In 2005 there were 1.2 million abortions in the US. If abortion was banned could the government agencies finds loving homes for 1 million+ children every single year? I would imagine that after giving birth a number of women would prefer to keep the child. I'm a guy with no kids so cannot begin to imagine the complex emotional bonds involved between a mother and her child.

They could always keep the kids...

Also if you don't want a kid don't get pregnant, you have absolutely no excuse for getting pregnant unless you were raped and I highly doubt all 1.2 million of those were from rape.

@ justinuk
There is such a long waiting list in the U.S for families to adopt a kid that every year families in the U.S adopt more and more kids from other countries.
So if they were to ban abortion there are all sorts of people willing to adopt one. Also if they banned abortion it's not like all 1.2million parents are going to give them up most would keep them.

How can you justify abortions when the mother's life is in danger? And people under the age of consent?

How is killing someone else for those reasons any more right then killing people for other reasons? If you legally define a fetus as a person, you can't at all have abortions. For ANY reason. Including situations where there is literally no chance of either patient surviving.

It would go against the Hippocratic Oath. No doctor would perform a "legal" abortion.

Also, anyone who voted for such a law would be a hypocrite of the highest order. Giving fetuses conditional humanity is worse then none at all. It's something I can't understand in people who see fetuses as kids. It's the real inhumanity in this debate.

Well they wouldn't be hypocrites if they believed in speeding up people's deaths to save people on trasnplant lists and the like. But like I said. Inhuman.

(slight spelling corrections and the like have been performed by me on the above)

Epic win.  Pro-lifers who make exceptions for rape and so on are hypocrites.

Every pro-lifer needs to be able to fully address this post.

As for me, pro-choice.  Up to some point more than halfway through the pregnancy the life is not a person but rather a potential person, and in many cases the likely outcome of that potential is not good or even ruinous to the person, the mother/family, or both.

Pro-choice, if the kid isn't wanted, why should we force some misfits to become parents, or add another to the foster care system? There are too many families on welfare raising 4-6 kids as it is, taking tax payers money, teaching their kids how to work the system and break the law, drink and do drugs, just like mommy and daddy. Personally, I think abortions should be free, paid for by our government, and we should end the welfare program. That is just me though.

If I'm not pro-life does that make me anti-life?

I'm a monster!

Anyway, its a womans choice. If your personal beliefs are that life starts at conception then don't have an abortion, thats your choice and your beliefs. Don't try and force your beliefs on others, people who (with reasonable arguments) believe that life doesn't start until cognitive function begins.

"Just wondering, from the pro-choice people:

Why exactly do we *need* abortions in the case of entirely social reasons? Wouldn't it make more sence to just carry the child to full term and have someone adopt it? We've seen through scientific studies that having abortions do indeed have consequences on women that go through them (even moreso than post-partem depression).

Why then can't they just carry these babies to full term, exactly? "

Because adoption usually doesn't work. There are already far too many children up for adoption and not enough people adopting. Its far better to prevent a human life from occuring than to cause many unhappy ones.

Nevermind thought you said most.

Yeah, if the gov't offered free sterilizations we might have fewer people having unwanted/neglected/doomed kids.

Most foetuses spontaneously abort anyway. It is not a biological fact that "consequences" will happen after abortion. It must be a psychological factor which can be reduced by improving the availability and reducing the impact of having one as well as proper pre- and post- abortion psychological care.

I'd consider getting one. Only thing that worrys me is surgery freaks me right out.

I don't see the benefits in kids aside from the "When everyone else you know dies someone will visit you."

I'll just make some friends younger then me thanks.

Then again, I have a pretty high opinion of myself and I wasn't even a finished product. I might want to donate sperm. I think the world would probably be better off if i had a kid or two... i'm just too lazy and cheap to raise em.

Everyone else in my family is decidedly non lazy so i don't think it's genetic. Really have some decent genetics backing me up looking back at it.
