I can't see the Playstation name surviving forever. Brands just don't have any longevity these days. Corporations tend to rebrand their products far too often, and during the planning phase of some future console launch, Sony will probably succumb to the temptation to throw out the Playstation brand name (or repurpose it) and assign some new moniker to their consoles.

In support of some the opinions and predictions already stated, it is quite possible that Sony leaves the market if it is not profitable enough or that they adopt a different name.  At one time, Walkman was the premiere brand in its genre.  It just about died off because of changes in technology and Apple's iPod has supplanted it.  Then again, the Walkman brand still exists after nearly 30 years, so it's possible that Sony would keep the Playstation brand, as well.

I was going to point out that PhotoShop CS2 was the 9th version, and while I believe it was also technically PS 9.0, people mostly use the CS version number now.
