The PS3 utilizes HDCP but im not sure if it is only for Blu-Ray and DVD protection though...  But if it is protected for games and movies there is no way at this time to strip the newest HDCP and the Blackmagic does not handle HDCP only plain signals although there was a way to strip HDCP with a converter that cost a crapload a couple of years ago the company got shut down and i have not heard of any way to get around this so its hard to say weather or not its possible to use HDMI recording with the ps3.

From launch up until about three days after the release of uncharted my system was hooked up with component cables. (had a spare cable so why buy) I bought an hdmi cable so that I could upscale all my dvds with the ps3. Up to chapter 13 was by component, and chapters 13-22 of my first playthrough where via hdmi. Initially upon using the hdmi cables I wasn't impressed as it looked about the same; while sometimes being worse in bright areas. I later on tweaked the settings in both my ps3 and tv to suit hdmi and was greeted with a very noticeable difference in picture quality over the component cables.

Gametrailers has proven that they either don't want to or can't properly set up both a tv and a ps3. (all one must do is compare your copy of ass creed with their video for blatant proof)

They are using a false comparison , There is a HUGE DIFFERENCE when you have full RGB and super white on. Even the XMB looks amazingly better.

@Leo-J, I work in TV on the tech side, if the video is unencrypted on the HDMI cable then yes you can record that feed. As to whether gametrailers has the equipment is most likely up for debate but it can in fact be done with an unencrypted video source. Not all video passing through HDMI is encrypted, you have to set the flag for encryption to be on.

So you're saying that a GT comparison video discredits the argument that GT comparison videos lack credibility?

Do I really need to point out the irony of that?

I don't own a PS3, but having played on several, I can safely say that I have never seen one that looked as washed out as those seen in GT comparison videos. Can you honestly say that you have?

That is the sole reason I have for doubting the credibility of GT comparison videos, and given the recent Gamespot debacle, is it any wonder that conspiracy theories abound? 

Also, as an Xbox fanboy, it probably wasn't that wise of you to link to a video of a PS3 exclusive that is probably the best looking game on any console right now. Incidentally, why doyou think they used U:DF instead of comparing a multiplatform title?

Can I just ask if you personally use those features and can see a difference with your own setup?

I do not own an HD TV, therefore I cannot see it for myself.

I will do it though next week I get a 720p, Im going to buy the HDMI and compare.

Then why are you so passionate as to how this is fake? GT even put up a HD version of this video. And yet you put more stock in a youtube video of somebody taping their TV. We have no idea the settings he used to calibrate the TV while recording. I don't like GT in any way but I trust them to keep their videos legit far more than I trust some random youtuber to not mess with his TV's settings.
