I see your point but I still think it leaves the scores too top heavy. There isn't much room to work with school grade mentality. You basically have 6-10 to work with considering anything under 6 is supposed to be crap. I think the 1-5 scale is much better but it seems like most have abandoned that scale in favor of 1-10.
