I love how people are still clinging to the idea that Demon Souls 2 would out sell Dark Souls when Dark Souls has done nothing but out profited and outsold Demon Souls in every category. Face it, Dark Souls is the more profitable game.

From Software "going to multiplatform" was a good decision? | |||

It's funny how much Sony fans bash developers that decide to go multiplatform with games or IPs that were once Sony exclusives.
What goes around comes around guys... you hogged up all the big 3rd party exclusives for 2 generations and even saw what little 3rd party exclusives the other guys had like RE4 and Ninja Gaiden get ported to your systems, so forgive the rest of us if we can't seem to find any tears to shed for you.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
I dunno but I am just glad to play it on the 360. While I feel Skyrim was the GOTY for me that year I am regretting that thought. Dark Souls was way more memorable and the only real hard game in recent years that I actually enjoyed. I think more companies should strive to make people "learn"" how to play a game. If that makes sense,
It's just that simple.

As a Sony fan this gen I do not mind when games go multiplat. Games that jump exclusively from one platform to another then another are the problem. It dilutes the fanbase and imo usually leads to a game series demise. Games that jump from one platform to another and stick with the new one for a while have less such issues.
I don't think hogged is the correct word. Nintendo for the last few gens made is especially difficult for multiplatform publishers to includes its consoles in their releases. Gamecube was by far the 'closest' to its competitors but still had enough shortcomming that cripled multiplats on it.
People shouldn't shed tears, they should just enjoy their games.

Demon's Souls sold without any marketing: 1.64m Dark Souls combined sold with some marketing: 1.67m I thing From Software expected more sales from Dark Souls... way better sales than Demon's Souls... but that's not happened. What do you think guys??? |
It will happen ...
Of course it is good to go multiplatform when you have the situation that two platforms like PS3 and XBox360 have nearly the same userbase and both have not enough user two make a game a big success.
Perhaps in the next console generation one console will again, like the PS2 did, probably Wii U, rise above all others and is able to handle all games powerwise, than multiplatform would be not necessary.
I'm loving to read the comments... there are a lot of reasonable posts.

The crissindahouse's comparison is a bit wrong because the release dates in the three big regions for Demon's Souls is different. In the same timeframe only in big three regions: Dark Souls: 1.45m I will make a better graphic soon... Anyway I can't see Dark selling at long term like Demon sold because Demon grow up after 1-2 year of the release... Dark seems more front loaded. |
Dark Souls is probabily a bit more front loaded as well because it came off the reputation of Demon's Souls.
Is Demon's Souls 0.72 mil the figure for the aligned release in Europe, US and Japan?

Aligned first year for Europe, US and Japan.
A bit confused about what some users are arguing about.
I think the game could have been more successful.
We should consider, if Namco/From Software didn't consider the game successful would they have ported it to PC? Would they have decided to release downloadable content if the game was not successful?
Namco orignally assured fans there would be no downloadable content, and I think the success of the game allowed them to rethink that decision.
At the same time, this game being a Sony exclusive could have generated feedbacks a multiplatform game couldn't. Sony might have advertised the game more. And I think exclusivity is also very good marketing for a game.
I love the game, its maybe the best game I have played this generation, and I hope it makes it to 2 mil sales. The developers took everything that made Demon's Souls good and made it spectacular. I can't wait for the DLC.
One user also mentioned the difficulity of the game, I think From Software acknowelged they want to try something easier, and I hope they do. I would love to see them focus on telling a story rather than focsung on making the game harder. The story in Dark Souls is one of the most intelligently writtent stories this generation.
